Who is more mature?
Have you ever been in love before? I don’t think I have been before, but I know what it feels and looks like to be in love. But if you have been in love, you may have wanted to move very fast in your relationship and may have to be reminded to slow down. If you don’t slow down in relationships, you may be making a mistake. This topic can be related with the story “The Tragedies of Romeo and Juliet”. The story is about 2 families who despise each other, but the children on each side fall in love. Romeo is rushing Juliet into marriage and living together, and it makes him look immature. Romeo appears to be immature because Romeo killed Tybalt, he is rushing into marriage, and he almost committed suicide over Juliet.
In the story “The Tragedies of Romeo and Juliet”, Juliet’s cousin, named Tybalt, absolutely hates the Monique’s and everything about them. When the Capulet’s have a party and Romeo decides to sneak into is, Tybalt finds out about Romeo sneaking in and becomes very angry and decides to seek revenge. He decides to go to Romeo and tell him what he has done and plans on killing him. But as he tries to kill Romeo, Tybalt and Benvolio start fighting, and Tybalt kills Benvolio. Romeo becomes very angry and ends up killing Tybalt. In this quote, “Alive in triumph—and Mercutio slain! Away to heaven, respective lenity, and fire-eyed fury be my conduct now. Now, Tybalt, take the “villain” back again that late thou gavest me, for Mercutio’s soul Is but a little way above our heads, Staying for thine to keep him company. Either thou or I, or both, must go with him.” (Act 3 Scene 1) this shows that Romeo has absolutely no control over his anger issues and how he controls them. Although before this incident he was taking the situation very maturely, he still let his nerves get the best of him and killed Tybalt.

If you have heard anything about the story “The Tragedies of Romeo and Juliet”, you may automatically think that the whole story is about love and things among the lines of love. But story mostly consists of hate, which surprises many people. But when the love part occurs in the story, it seems to happen very fast. I say this because Romeo loves Juliet at first sight, and tries to marry her as soon as possible, which he later successfully does. For example, Juliet says “Good night, good night! As sweet repose and rest come to thy heart as that within my breast!” and Romeo replies “O, wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?” (All quotes can be found in Act 2 Scene 2).
The average reader should know that when Romeo says his quote, he wants to have sex with Juliet, to show his love for her. And at the time period of this play, if you are to have intercourse, you shall marry the other person, which Romeo is getting at by saying that to Juliet.
After killing Tybalt, Romeo is banned from his town and cannot live there anymore. This upsets both Romeo and Juliet because of the “love” they have for each other. The fact of being banished from the city really gets to Romeo though, and he becomes extremely overdramatic. He decides that the best way for him to end this situation is to commit suicide. In this quote, “Calling death banishment is like cutting off my head with a golden ax and smiling while I’m being murdered.”(Act 3 scene 3) He is obviously taking the situation way too far and isn’t thinking things through, and this act of selfishness leads him into thinking about suicide. Only a person who has no self control would think of such a thing. Love might make a person crazy hypothetically, but not literally to the point of suicide.
This is why Juliet is more mature that Romeo. Romeo seems to have a problem with self control and letting is anger get the best of him. He also can’t control his emotions correctly. For example, if he likes someone, he may automatically think he is in love with the person. And if something bad happens, say his friend dies, he automatically seeks revenge. Romeo appears to be immature because Romeo killed Tybalt, he is rushing into marriage, and he almost committed suicide over Juliet.
