In the past few years, numerous countries suffered from natural or manmade disasters like earthquake, tsunamis, flood and war. The growing consensus among people all over the world is that ending the disasters requires internationally support. However, some individuals claim that we should take care of our own country and living community for the obvious reality that no individual or government can successfully assist everyone who needs help. Although I do admit this fact, I do not think the international support would be stopped only because of this reason.
Affording assistance to countries in trouble keeps the global community safe and stable. To begin with, international cooperation can promote the communication and interaction between countries from different cultural and religion background. And this, in turn, will create a friendly and peaceful atmosphere of the global community. Further, inadequate support may cause tension and conflicts in the world. If the countries fail to address the terrible problems brought by disasters, their bordering countries have to be confronted with the spread of diseases, famine and other tricky issues.
In addition, lending a helping hand to other countries stands for humanism. Humanism asks that all the countries, be it rich or poor, highly developed or undeveloped, have an obligation that ensuring the world is away from threat on hunger, disease and death. That is to say, any government who just takes care of its own business without paying any attention to others’ trouble would be inhumane and deserves moral condemnation.

Nevertheless, we cannot be over dependent on international support, and government has to concentrate its mind on improving its citizens’ living conditions and welfare. It is generally acknowledged that no government would put other country’s problems prior to its domestic ones so that there is no need to worry about affording assistance to others would do harm to our own profit.
To sum up, government has the responsibility to support other countries who are suffering from disasters and other tough problems, and its own citizens can profit from this behavior as well. Besides, the disaster-afflicted countries should help themselves, not only waiting for international support.
