Dairy one: How the war started.
I never knew this would have caused such a great war. It just so happened that the Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sophie had been killed by a Serbian man named Princip, all this happened so quickly that now even I cant be sure what’s going on!
I believe it all started when Ferdinand died and Austria Hungary blames Serbia for the killing and decides to attack Serbia. Which also caused Russia to get involved since the Russians do have the contract and promised to protect the Serbians when they are under attack. On August, Germany, who supports Austria Hungary, hears about Russia’s declaration of war on Austria Hungary, so they demand war on Russia. Who knew Germany also wanted to defeat France before attacking Russia, declares war on France. Germany was so eager to overpower France that they marched right into Belgium without permission! And this caused Britain to protect Belgium and declare war on Germany. Britain never wished to get involved in this situation, but Germany wanted everyone to join in and fight against each other, so you could say Germany started all this! Many days later, Austria Hungary decides to declare war on Russia but Britain and France also wish to battle against Austria Hungary!!
Now that the war has started, most countries gathered their armies to be ready incase, and the government here has already start putting posters in each village and they’re coming to our town soon.

Diary two: Why I signed up
When I first heard about the army, I thought to myself, should I join? What if I don’t come back? I don’t want to leave my family, who’s going to look after them if I leave for the army? This is my country after all, all my friends are joining, I should be fighting and supporting my country. At first, I wasn’t so sure, but my friends persuaded me, and told me it was time to do something back for the country to return the favor.
So I took their advise, and signed up for the army, my mother and wife were worried and frightened when I told them my decision, I knew at once they didn’t want me to go, but supported me, they trusted me with my actions, even knowing there was a possibility that I might not be able to come back. Then they asked me why I was so eager, there was no answer to make them feel relived, so I told them everything and they understood what I was trying to tell them and agreed that maybe it was time to do something back for the country.
There were propaganda posters everywhere and different colors of posters meant different meanings; White posters played on people’s feelings to make them think that joining the army was the right thing to do; Black posters created hatred towards the Germans and its people. The words on the propagandas were very persuading, it mostly questioned me and made me think I had to make it to the army and people in the village gave me a lot of pressure, if I didn’t join, they would’ve seen me as a coward and wont regard me as a man, its really important for me to keep my pride and dignity.
Diary three: Life in the trenches
The trenches, when we reached it, were full of mud and water, we tried to drain it, but found dead bodies in the bottom and the sides, and the smell was awful! Not only that, but there was also rats as big as cats and things with lots of legs? Many soldiers wanted to go home after realizing joining the army was way different than what they imagined. Most soldiers purposely shot a bullet through their legs so the generals would allow them to go home. Injuring oneself was very common here.
Some other soldiers in the hut took their shirts off at tea, they were catching lice, and most men were killing them between their nails. All we lived on was tea and dog biscuits, we barely got meat, but it was very disgusting and sick eating next to dead bodies and standing in a trench full of water.
The Essay on Ww1 Trenches Trench Foot
BODY LICE Men in the trenches suffered from lice. One soldier writing after the war described them as "pale fawn in colour, and they left blotchy red bite marks all over the body." They also created a sour; stale smell. Various methods were used to remove the lice. A lighted candle was fairly effective but the skill of burning the lice without burning your clothes was only learnt with practice. ...
But that wasn’t the worst, having trench feet was terrible, your feet would swell to two or three time their normal size and would go completely dead. You can stab your feet with a knife and not feel a thing. But if you were fortunate enough not to lose your feet then the swelling would go down. I’ve heard cries and screaming due to the pain caused. There was only one way to stop having ‘trench feet’ was to change their socks regularly, wear waterproof footwear or gumboots and cover their feet with whale oil.
Lice also caused trench fever, a painful disease that starts with a kind of severe pain followed by high fever. The only way to recover was to leave the trenches and wash everyday, but most of the soldiers died because of this sickness and recoveries usually toke 12 weeks. Half the men here are dying due to diseases. Not many are left for the battle, this is worst than what we imagined!
We slept on sandbags or on the ground, next to the wet muddy water, we didn’t have tents to sleep in, but when it rained, we had to sleep in big puddles with lots of frogs, beetles and rats. The living conditions here were very poor. Every morning we wake up there would be creatures crawling on our bodies and there wasn’t enough clean water for everyone to wash, even if there were, the generals would be the first ones to use them, and we were all left with the dirty water.
Life here In the trenches suck for all of us, I just hope this could end soon, I really miss my family, and I don’t want to leave them, for now, I didn’t catch any symptoms but let’s hope I’ll survive through the war.
Diary four: A letter from the Home Front
Dear John,
How are you? Mother and I have been worried sick about you. Ever since you left, mother doesn’t look very well and she cant focus on what she’s doing, and she looks paler and paler everyday, I’m very concerned about her, so please come back when you can, everyone is waiting, the town is very quiet, everyone are all very unease about the world war. In the past few days, I saw men from the world war being sent back home, what’s going on? Did they catch a disease or something? I hear most men caught the trench fever due to the poor conditions of the trenches, it started raining last week and it hasn’t stopped yet, just remember not to soak your socks in the rain or it’ll cause you to catch the trench feet.
The Essay on Life In The Trenches : Letter Home
It has been quite some time since I have last written, the more I learn about this god forsaken war the less I want to discuss it, however I know you are sixteen now and may see it a duty to follow my footsteps. So I am taking the time to describe the theatrics of my life in the trenches and the daily occurrences. Firstly I must enquire on the home life, how is your brother and mother? Has the ...
The town is very quiet ever since all the men left and now there are many empty slots in the jobs and women are all asked to take the place for men at work to make more money. Everyone are only allowed to take in half of their food, money and supplies, the other half is sent over to the soldiers at the trenches, there was barely any news in these years, no one knows what’s going on at the war, everyone’s worried sick.
The government passed a rule to arrest anybody accused of helping the enemy or even looking like the enemy, if found talking, criticizing or even act like the enemy will be sent to court or sentenced to death. At first the Censorship Office let us mention that the dead of both sides were noticeable after a battle. Later, it allowed only German dead on the battleground. Later still, no dead were permitted. The government toke the war very seriously so even the people who tried to talk soldiers out of joining the army would be fined.
I toke a job at day and night and finally got enough money to hire a doctor to see mother and the doctor gave some placebo to mother and now she’s feeling much better, by the time you get back, she’ll be all well to see you! So hurry back, we can’t wait to see you!!
Diary 5: going home
It has been a complete stalemate these years and it finally ended, today is November 11th, the war officially ended at 11am. I hear the war stopped due to the Russian industrialization, it was said the Communist revolutionaries killed the royal family and pulled out of war. Apart from that, I’m glad I’m going home, these few years being parted from my loving wife and family was terrible, knowing that I had to make the worst predictions that I might not be able to make it back home. But now everything’s over, I wont have to worry about these problems anymore.
Everything fell in silence at 11 am, no one won or lost on the battlefield, everyone was running out of food and supplies, and out of no where, Russia suddenly backs out from the war and we’ve lost a very important ally.
Though I’m relieved to know I’m going home but at the same time, I feel really unsettled and confused, who knows what will happen after this, after all, many suffered from terrible sickness and disorders after knowing the death of their loved ones, some even ended up in divorces due to the war since the battle has affected everyone deeply and changed lives.
The Essay on War Began India Enemy Taking
Ever wondered what it felt like to be caught between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea? That is how the Government of India feels right now. And that is why, a week after the war began, and months after talk of war began, India is only now beginning to criticise the war. There is no doubt that even though India values its growing closeness to the United States, the present war is simply not ...
