One of the most controversial issues that affect the entire world, especially women is abortion. This is the killing of a fetus or an embryo in the womb of a woman. The effect that the word abortion has on this world is incredible. It put fear in some people heart and nothing in others. Pro choicer are 45% of society and are all for abortions, 40% are pro-lifers and are against abortions and 15% are neutral, there go with the flow. The pro-lifers and pro-choicer are constantly in a debate about who is right or wrong when it comes to dealing with abortions. Surveys and interviews were done on the feelings and thoughts about abortion, who should make the decision about it, and the effects that it has on society past, present and the future. The results shows that majority of the people don’t seem to care much about it because it hasn’t affected them greatly. Overall, abortion is a serious issue and it will effect everyone in the future.
Abortion is an issue that evokes, on all sides, very strong feelings, judgments and very heated discussions. It deals with human interactions where ethics, emotions and law come together.
In the past few decades, abortion issue has been brought into sharper focus and has been debated. “A number of factors are responsible for this but the major one has been that associated with the sexual revolution which accentuates freedom in all matters sexual and in spite of or even because of the tremendous and indiscriminate increase in the distribution of contraceptives.”(Dr. Stephen Schwarz).

Abortion poses a moral, social and medical dilemma that faces many individuals to create an emotional and violent atmosphere. It has cause various debate between the pro-choicer and the pro-lifers on daily basics. It is an issue that has affected mainly women and children in the past, present and will continue to have an effect in the future.
Abortion is a subject that neither has a right or wrong answer. It is a matter of personal opinion, morals and values. The issue of abortions has also taken a toll on the justice system. Several people went to court to fight for their right to be able to have abortions, instead of killing themselves by have illegal abortions.
Abortion has joined racism and war as one of the most debatable subject of controversy. Many people want to be able to decide the destiny of others. Everyone in the United State is covered under the United States constitution, and under the 14th Amendment women have been given the choice of abortion. In 1973, Harry A. Blackmun wrote the majority opinion that it’s a women’s right to have an abortion. Roe v. Wade legalized abortion. Even though these women have been given the right, the case is not closed. There are many points of views toward abortion but the only two that are distinct are “pro-life” and “pro-choice.”
My concern in this research paper is to examine the extent to which arguments used by both sides of this debate are valid, and report on my interviews. The common acceptance of bad reasoning as self-evident always serves to down play the opposition and to further rationalize and irrationalize the whole debate.
While I’m personally in the pro-choice arena, I was very disappointed in learning about some the incidents and bad arguments that go on between the pro-life and pro-choice activist. The heated rhetoric argument isn’t any help in reaching a political or decision on the issue of abortion.
Pro-life activists carry a strong argument. They feel so strongly about these beliefs that violence has broken out in many known instances. Their argument is based solely on the fact that human life starts with conception. Their view is that there is no natural point of division in the life of a person between the fertilization of the egg and the point of the viability of a fetus to survive outside the womb, let alone birth. That abortion results in the intentional death of the unborn entity. Therefore, abortion can be defined as the intentional killing of a human being.

Pro-lifer also feel that abortions shouldn’t be legal because of responsibility. They feel that in our society today abortion is becoming the careless solution. One thing that seems to brother me about pro-lifers is that there would allow woman to get abortions if there become pregnant due to rape, incest, etc. The way I see it the fetus or the embryo is still being killed. The pro-lifers have double standard when it comes to the point under what circumstances a person should have an abortion.
Pro-choicers on the other hand also carry strong points. They believe that the child inside a woman’s body is their property and that it’s life doesn’t begin until birth. They feel that woman should not be forced to have bodies they don’t want, because it would be senseless to bring an unwanted human live into the world. They must be able to decide what happens to them and have a safe plus a legal way of doing so. Women are in control of their own bodies and lives.
The pro-choice activist agrees that a woman’s body is her own private domain. “It is a human being natural right, not a constitutional right, but a natural right, which the courts are obliged to recognize under the Ninth Amendment, to privacy: the privacy of property-real and personal-and of person.”(Mark Boyer) As a pro-choice person I feel that there isn’t anything more private than our own bodies.
It was difficult to gain valid and subjective information on abortion, because it seems as if the majority of the research data has been mixed into personal beliefs of groups and individuals.

I set out to interview a various range of citizens and professionals about this topic and to listen to their views. I did not expect to get an accurate answer to my topic, but rather to better understand the views of the pro-life and pro-choice activist. I learn new things about abortions while doing research.
I discovered that in the United States about 1.6 million pregnancies end in abortion, and it is one of the safest surgeries. Various studies and research have indicated that in America, one-baby dies every 22 seconds and that 3,900 abortions are preformed everyday. At least 30% of all pregnancies are now ended by abortions. 46% of American women over the age of 45 have had an abortion. 95% of abortions are done because of social reasons, which include rape, incest or health problems. Women that have abortions increase their risk of miscarriage and breast cancer.
The data that I collected from my interview was that 50% believe that abortion is murder, 38% believe that it isn’t murder and 12% don’t care. When asked if abortion is sometimes the best course in a bad situation, 60% said no, 32% said yes and 8% didn’t care. The most important question that I asked was whether having an abortion is more of an issue to control a women’s body or the life of the fetus; 44% it is control of the body, 45% said the life of the fetus and 11% said it is a matter of personal choice. According to Melanie Oudkerk, “the thing that we need to is come to a compromise on this issue and stop all the violence because all the fight and violence is only going to making things worse.”
In conclusion, many people believe abortion is a moral issue, but it is also a constitutional issue. Abortion is the choice of a women whether or not she want’s to receive one. Under the 14th amendment “personal liberty”grant the women the right to receive abortions. The right to choose to have an abortion is so personal and essential to women’s lives that without this right women cannot exercise other fundamental rights and liberties guaranteed by the constitution. “With the right to choose abortion, women are able to enjoy, like men, the rights to fully use the powers of their minds and bodies.”(Patricia Lunneborg) My research lead me to conclude that personal choice of abortion am the only choice no matter what side one takes in the debate.
The Essay on Abortion – My Body My Choice
Abortion has always been a controversial subject among everybody whether they are involved directly or indirectly, or whether they are for it or against it. Personally I think every last person is entitled to his or ...
The issue of abortion is one that was around long before I was born and from the looks of it will be around long after I’m gone. The big question that is causing all the controversy still hasn’t been answered. The question is should abortion be legalized? My questions are who are the people that make that decision? Should abortion be a private and personal issue? Do we have the right to judge our sister and brothers? If this issue is the cause of so much controversy, what is the human race turning in to? These I feel can’t be answered unless we as a human race stop pointing finger and listen to each other and come a conclusion about the entire situation. Is this ever going to happen? I feel that this society needs to get its act together because our human race is slowly going down the drain. Finally, I would like to suggest that we work to heal the wounds in our society resulting from the bitter struggle over abortion.
