This article gives a very good outlook on what is human capital and how does it affects ones financial capital allocation? One has to understand the importance of human capital not just from an organization point of view but also from an investment point of view. Once I understood that human capital is an important investment for an organization it helped me relate its importance to the competitive advantage it brings to an organization. I’m using this relationship and its importance in my final research project.

This article gives the basic understanding of competitive advantage from a strategic management point of view. A competitive advantage exists when the firm is able to deliver the same benefit as competitors but at a lower cost (cost advantage) or deliver benefits that exceed those of competing products (differentiation advantage).
One needs to understand what does competitive advantage stands for and then relate how human capital can contribute to it. By understanding competitive advantage from a strategic management point of view it gave me a better idea about how to relate it with human capital and its benefit for an information technology consultancy and outsourcing company or business for the final research project.

This article gives a very good overview on things that overlap between HR aspect and corporate strategy aspect in an organization. White HR is preoccupied with the right people, right place, right time, right role and right training; corporate strategy is much more concerned with what industry, what product mix, what segment and above all, what value the company is delivering to its customers. Rivera has shown that both HR analytics and corporate’s strategy to get a competitive advantage in the market goes hand in hand and overlaps each other in terms of their requirements. Competitive advantage is not possible unless the HR analysis on using the right resource for the right industry, product and market segment has been cleared. I’ll be using the above idea in explaining how right human capital using the HR analysis will be more effective in giving the corporate a competitive advantage in the right industry, product and market segments in my final project.
