On the 35th anniversary of Barbie Doll, Anna Quindlen published the article “Is she a Good model for Youngsters?” in the New York Times.
In this article the author portrays her insight, feelings, views and beliefs about the negative influence of Barbie Doll on little girls, with evident destructive consequences on all their whole lives.
She tries to convey the idea that while the little girls can not conscious, realize and prevent the negative impact Barbie lays on them, innocently considering it “just a toy”, She also tries to prove this and renders the idea that the society should do smth to stop the manufacturer from producing them“, in spite of the increased and continued demand of the little girls to have it by no means.
The author voice sounds angry and loud , warnful and powerful, that is revealed by her negative attitude and expressed by the words” I hate Barbie, she is a terrible role model”. .
Apparently, the author’s notes are based on her own perceptions and on the latest one side research study, performed by the University of Arizona. The Study investigated and evaluated the attitude of white and black teenagers towards their body images. “90% of white girls expressed dissatisfaction” with their own bodies, while the black girls tended to be more realistic, being satisfied with their weight, shape and looks.
The Essay on Barbie Girl Sing Drink Tea
Sing it to the Barbie song… Hi ya lang niu! Hi lang jai! Want to ride in my Honda? Sure lang jai! Jump in! I'm a Chinese girl, in a Chinese world, Eating wont on, it's perfection. I have light brown hair, Sanrio everywhere, Frustration, in my generation. Come on dd, let's go drink tea. I'm a Chinese girl, in a Chinese world Playing Maj hong, nothing is wrong.I have tons of flares, tight shirts ...
It’s difficult for me as foreigner, coming from a different educational, cultural and social background to criticize or to support the author’s negative point of view and attitude about the above related argument . Ultimately each personality and character is sharpened by the culture‘ traditions and customs, rules and regulations, rights and obligations, permits and restrictions, language, family, social and environment. Each has particular advantages and disadvantages which as a result mold the personalities as a whole. .
From my alien subjective point of view I totally disagree with the author’s statement . I see the problems of low self esteem lying in people themselves and in a lot of other major factors that they interact with while growing up.. I think the reason of it, is the big gap in education-the gap that is caused by adults laziness, poor knowledge and absence of interest to stay next to kids and be helpful, making them feel known and important in our lives This lack of positive family, and social interaction with kids causes the isolation and boredom. Leaving children more by themselves, we subject them against their will to be influenced positively, or negatively by ready made samples of beautiful or ugly things. These objects called toys without the help of matures can render static, unclear and confused messages .Ultimately they are involuntarily forced to get thru difficult challenges by themselves and understand the world around them the way it is given
The low self esteem has the roots sprouting deeply down in family, school, society. and far much more away from the belief of the impossibility to look like Barbie. The irrational thoughts of perfection, overall approval and overgeneralization are the main reasons that cause negative emotions which lead to debilitative feelings that cause low self -esteem and depression as a result..
That Barbie is not the panateia of low self esteem, was proved by it’s beautiful presence of my family, since that was my daughter’s favorite doll too.
The Research paper on Family system thesis
INTRODUCTION Not all children grow from infancy through their adolescent years without experiencing some bumps along the way. While every child is unique and special, sometimes they encounter emotions, feelings or behavior that cause problems in their lives and the lives of those around them. Parents often worry when their teens have difficulty coping with their things, emotions, get involved with ...
I would rather agree with the saying “ Beauty gives birth to beauty” “ Hate give birth to hate“. I enjoyed buying the dolls and admired the daughters creative play, which for me as an outsider seemed to be a “world of perfection and wonders”, well organized and disciplined. Every doll was well groomed, fed , “educated” and put to bed in a nice , warm and safe environment…Was that bad??? I think that the doll taught my daughters love for the siblings, peers, parents and implanted values and skills like organization, discipline , accuracy, tolerance, patience. While writing this paper I asked one of my grown up daughters how she thinks Barbie had influenced on her… she hesitated, recalled the memories, her face started to glitter with joy; the pitch of her voice revealed her satisfaction and admiration while saying “ No influence… just a beautiful toy!!!!!!!!”
In conclusion I would say that we harvest what we seed and how we care about, over the time. The remedies lie in ourselves , we are the skilled masters of our destinies and also have impact on the others .Since the human creation, there have always been invented idols of beauty, being molded by the consistency of human imagination and demands. Happiness doesn’t lie in an offered piece of beauty but in our ability to take advantages of it , our perceptions of the surrounding world and skills to decorate our inner and exterior image. All this is a long process of positive mother-child, siblings, teacher-student interaction .Toys are just one means of education , the main instrument lying in educator’s abilities, skills and hard work.
