To complete this process, an egg cell needs a genetic code to create a new life which is carried by the sperm cell. If a male and a female had a sexual intercourse, the sperm from the male will be delivered to the female’s reproductive system which is called the cervix. From the cervix, only a few sperm cells will make it through and they will travel and race to reach the egg cell of the female. Once the sperm cells reached to the egg cell, they will penetrate through the egg cell but only one will make it. And if the sperm penetrates the egg cell, it seals it and the other remaining cells outside dies. Now the genetic code from the sperm is successfully received by the egg cell, they will then join and start the process for creating a new life.

M1: Discuss the nature-nurture debate in relation to the development of an individual. Case Study
My dad was brought up by my grandparents. My dad and my grandparents lived in a lower class society. My grandfather was a gold miner that time which is a very dangerous work because you’re risking your life in this kind of job. My grandfather was able to send and pay for my dad’s education. At the start of his education, my dad met a lot of people and learned a lot of things along his study. He was always accompanied and guided through his childhood life by my grandparents. And when he got to the stage of adolescence, my dad became more matured and starts to become independent. On his earlier adulthood, my dad made some good friends in the university. He took an electrical engineering course and because of his hard work and dedication to finish the course, he graduated as an electrical engineer. But then later on, my dad found out that he has a heart disease and he’s in a very critical condition. And because of constant intake of alcohol and frequent smoking his condition became worst and severe which led to his death.
He died at the age of 44 due to a heart attack. We have a family history background of heart disease which has long been thought to be a risk factor for my dad, it was just then triggered and worsen his condition when he started to abuse the use of alcohol and cigarette. Relating my dad to the nature and nurture in relation to the development of an individual Nature affects and influences the development of a person. It is responsible for the growth of a person from the fetus level until its development into a normal adult. The genetic make-up of a human being is responsible for their skin colour, colour of their eyes, sex and hair as well as distinguishing characteristics which are inherited. Nature can only help in the growth of a fetus into a normal well-developed adult who may have inherited some special talents.
Thus it can only be concluded that nature uses the genetic coding to help in physical development and does not take part some positive or negative traits to a person. However in my dad’s case, he has inherited negative genetic factors from his parent who has a heart illness condition. He then has an issue of heart illness from the day he was born but it wasn’t severe that time and can be prevented. But because of the abuse of alcohol and smoking, his heart illness condition was triggered and became worse. It is fair to say that genes do exert a tremendous effect and powerful influence on the growth and development of a person. But on the other hand, lots of other characteristics also interact with an individual’s genetic preferences to influence the way a person develops. Environmental factors are likely to be the real origins of person’s behaviour. Nurture includes the use of conditioning in order to induce a new behaviour to a child. As for my dad, he was been brought up well by my grandparents. However, by the time my dad grows up he met a lot of people and make friends with them and they started to influence my dad in some activities such as drinking and smoking often.
He starts to become independent, he will then start to develop his own personal experiences but as environmental factors influence him he would obviously have a different personality. For example, due to the influence of his friends he adapts some of his friends’ qualities or personalities like started trying to have some vices such as smoking and drinking alcohol which he doesn’t usually do. Because my dad was a fit and healthy person before. Meeting new people and living to a different environment will surely give a huge impact to an individual’s personality. My dad was influenced by his friends to drink alcohol and smoke cigarette which affected his healthy condition, he then become ill most of the time because of the weakening of his immune system due to his vices and this also triggered his heart condition which could be avoided if he continued to have a healthy living. This case study shows that nature and nurture has a big difference even though both are most likely to have some similarities that influence the development of a person’s life.
D1: evaluate how nature and nurture may affect the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of two stages of the development of an Individual.

He started to gain experience in school and learn new techniques and on how to manage things simple and easy. Because he wants to know what it feels like to be independent, he started studying how to cook, manage his time schedule, and starts to be organize. My father has also a healthy emotional state. He is very happy, calm and relax because he managed to stay fit and healthy. He is also an emotionally strong person because he can overcome problems easily with the help of friends and family. My dad was socially active. He often goes to the gym and meet new people and make friends with them. Because my dad was friendly, he makes a lot of friends and develops a good relationship with them.
