Foreign Literature
Many extracurricular activities have proven to be beneficial in building and strengthening academic achievement, even if the activities are not obviously related to academic subjects (Marsh & Kleitman, 2002, para. 9).
“A number of studies revealed that students participating in extracurricular activities did better academically than students who did not participate” (Marsh & Kleitman, 2002, para. 7).
Researchers have particularly studied the relationship between extracurricular activities and academic performance in adolescents. One study found that “adolescents who participated in extracurricular activities reported higher grades, more positive attitudes toward school.” (Darling, Caldwell, & Smith, 2005, para. 1)

THE RESEARCH METHOD
This chapter presents the research design and procedures to be used in the study. It will discuss the research design, the instrument, sampling design of population and respondents.
Research Design
The Descriptive survey was used in this study. Descriptive survey describes with emphasis current issues or conditions as a response to the statement of the problem, participating extracurricular activities could have effects on the academic performance of the selected Village School of Parkwoods’ students.
Development of Instrument
The researcher will ask permission from the teachers, advisers of the school to allow the students to answer the questionnaires. The answering of the questionnaires will be done in the classroom. The researcher’s questionnaire is a survey that is composed of the most basic profile of the respondents. In addition to this are some related questions about the research topic, including their academic averages.
Validation of Instrument
Self-made questionnaire are composed of questions that will be used to measure the study habits of students who participate and doesn’t participate in extracurricular activities. The researcher will conduct some interview and surveys to prove the certain topic. The researcher may get some respondents to get some information that can be great basis for the research. These questionnaires were used to determine the effects participating extracurricular activities to the academic performance of the 2nd year high school students in Village School Of Parkwoods SY 2011-2012.
Sampling Design and Population
The 25 2nd year highschool students who are enrolled during the school year 2012-2013 at Village School of Parkwoods which is comprised of the total population will be the sample size of the study.
