1. Avery Haines was perceived differently by different actors in the CTV Newsnet Case Study. To Henry Kowalski, she was perceived as an ideal candidate for a news anchor with experience, qualifications and charisma (she was to be an asset to CTV).
To her co-workers Avery Haines was perceived as new (eager to make friends), hardworking and committed to her job. To the public Avery Haines was viewed as an up and coming news anchor fresh to CTV Newsnet. After the mishap she was viewed as a discriminatory towards those with disabilities, racist and sexist.
2.The general population who viewed Avery Haines comments had a different reaction than that of her co-workers for a variety of factors. Avery Haines co-workers wanted to befriend her so they contemplated her offensive comments in a light that associated her add humorous. In contrast the public understands these messages to be literal opinions voiced and endorsed by the CTV Newsnet franchise. Viewers of this show may fall under the broad array of those whom she offended. In relation to Bruner’s model of perceptual process, Avery Haines co-workers excuse her behaviour as they are trying to categorize her (unfamiliar target) through the cues she expresses. By saying the things she is saying she is saying that she is eager to gain acceptance, she is in want of their companionship and she is trying to lighten the mood after her mistake. The co-workers excuse this behaviour because they understand her position and want to categorize her as relaxed, funny and sociable.
The Essay on Physical Appearance Image Perceive Positive
The importance for self-image in our lives today takes on many different forms. Some of these forms are positive, and some of these forms are negative. There are many different ways that we assess ourselves. Each way that we do this has an effect on our self-image and self-esteem. First and foremost, we can correlate physical appearance with self-image. In today's society and as it has been for ...
3.From the perspective of attribution theory the difference in perception of Avery Haines comments can be explained by both external and internal attributions. From the point of view of the co-workers Miss Haines was a well intentioned girl (internal attributes) but the external attributes lead her to horse around (wanting acceptance, messing up, being at work).
From the point of view op the public the messages voiced by Miss Haines are externally attributed to a national broadcasting agency so the environment reflects her messages as literal. On an internal attribution level her actions come across as mean comments as a result of her position as anchor.
4.The public did view her messages as literal. The messages she was so jokingly slurring meant to be comments sought to appease her co-workers were taken in a literal sense by the public because they where announced in formality. This national agency with millions of viewers announced messages of derogatory meaning. Though the subject material for jokes behind close doors this material should not be made public nationally and by a formal voice this agency. I believe the public had the right to be outraged. The public may misread her dialect as the opinions of CTV Newsroom. Perceptions and attributions vary greatly from varying perspectives. Messages are often come across in unintended ways for a variety of factors covered in this chapter.
5.Material covered in this chapter that could indicate why the public viewed the messages she expressed as legitimate might be because of how they perceive her position. In the video Avery Haines appears alone still starring into the camera. From the public point of view the messages she is saying aloud come across as a statement rather than a humorous remark.
6. I think Miss Haines should apologize profusely (as she did) and then retire or find another profession other than news anchoring. I believe Henry Kowalski should make a statement to the public and let miss Haines go. If mr. Kowalski is to keep her on the messages she voiced will seem as if they are endorsed by CTV news. There needs to be ramifications against this type of behaviour for the sake of CTV news. Her actions were unacceptable and unfortunately they were aired on televisions by they need to be corrected. The way to protect the reputation of this news outlet is to discipline the parties involved and apologize to the public.
