There have been an increase of incidences of terrorism which happen at the airports with explosive devices being traced as the most often ones. This has raised issues of the need for improved security in the airports which will help protect the travelers and therefore maintain the business.
This study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the available police dogs in the airports with an aim to identify whether police dogs are effective or not. The research was carried out in the airports where information was obtained inform of cases from the airports. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data and results were put down. Finally recommendations were made for the police unit as well as the companies which train dogs.
The government was also argued to help all companies which train the dogs to attain required standards. The recommendation were made after review of all options so that all necessary rectification can be made by the involved people.
CHAPTER ONE
Introduction
1.0 Background to the problem
There are continued trends of great improvement of required technology in all areas of life. This has left many areas which need to take advantage of many opportunities to come up with tremendous technology which will help them satisfy their customers. All interested persons including the terrorists are taking advantage of the technological changes and this therefore means that the security services will have to have to input the best use of the available technology so as to outdo the enemies (Wing, 2004).
The Essay on New Technology: Police Body Worn Cameras
Our department is currently going to purchase new technology in the form of officer worn cameras. Over the next five years this technology will be put in place. The police department will see many benefits from this technology in the areas of evidence preservation, reduced liability and improved efficiency for the police department. The officer worn camera is a device that has become cost ...
Apart from having competitive airlines, there must be various other ways unto which the airports can manage to identify cases of terrorism through prior detection.
The airports are found to be most vulnerable to terrorism since they are the ones which provide entry and exit of most people in a given country. Many scholars have expressed the need for added police force in the airports with others recommending the need for assuring the travelers that the airline has control of all communications (Wing, 2004).
There is debate on whether the airports should screen all the passengers using any forms of screening. However, most travelers refuse to give all necessary information where some assume that the information is personal so they need not to share. Some passengers have gone to the extent of filing cases against the police claiming that the police questioned them for no reason (Wing, 2004).
There being many barriers to establishment of required security service, there is need for establishment and even use of most convenient and simple way of detecting explosives. Sniffer dogs have been used to help in detection of any explosives which may cause damage in the airport. This research paper was seeking to see whether the use of police dogs in detection of explosives help the airports in achieving the required security services.
1.1 Statement of the Problem
Dogs have been found to be very important in providing security for various people and countries. However, Wing (2004) noted that there is great challenge in security services provided in the airports since many people do not allow to be screened for any thing. This study seek to identify whether the use of police dog in the airports has been effective.
1.2 Purpose of the Study
To investigate the use of police dogs in tracking the use of explosives at the airports.
1.3 Objectives of the Project
a) To investigate the level of use of police dog in the detection of explosives in the airports.
b) To identify whether police dogs help the airport to achieve the required security.
1.4 Research Questions
The Essay on Airport Operator Security Responsibilities
Airport security involves all the techniques and the methods that are used to guard airports as well as aircrafts from any acts of crime. Due to the fact that airports are active at any point of the day and also due to the large populations that are involved in various activities in the airports there is need to have an effective airport security system especially in international airports. Due to ...
a) To what extent are police dogs used in the airports for security purposes.
b) What factors are responsible for the use or non-use of police dogs in the airports for security purposes.
1.5 Theoretical Support for the Project
The world has gone the extent of training dogs which are capable of sniffing different things and identify what all sniffed things are. This has made many countries to always want to compete in training of their dogs so that they can obtain the best trained dogs. For many times, German Shepherd has been the winning dog in most of these competition.
This has therefore led to development of highly qualified dogs due to the increased level of competition amongst the countries. There are various schools which specialize in training of individuals on how to handle dogs in a technical way including basic veterinary (Mark, 2004).
This has led to certified people in the area of handling of dogs which raise the qualities of dogs which are being released for use. Most dogs have been used at the borders of countries to assist in protection from any illegal action that may take place along the border (Wing, 2004). Dogs have therefore been observed to be of great use to many countries in various areas. This leaves us with the need to know whether dogs are effective in the areas they are used especially in detecting explosives.
