I will go on to talk about how asthma affects the mother and how will effect the baby and the mother is a drinker so I will talk about how this will effect the babies development. I will talk about the environmental problems that can affect the development of the whole family by discussing the effect pollution will have. I will also talk about how income effects the family’s development. I will then finish off by talking about the son smoking, which has an effect on all the families’ asthma. Genetic
A genetic factor that I am going to look at is asthma. Asthma is a common condition that is long term that is inflammation or swelling of the airways of the lungs. Due to the inflammation, airways are twitchy or irritable and narrow easily in response to a wide range of triggers. Asthma is one of the most common long term childhood medical condition affecting 1. 1 million children in the UK meaning an average every 1:10 children have asthma. It is very likely to die from asthma but on average 1 person dies from asthma every 7 hours. Asthma causes recurring periods of wheezing (a whistling sound when you breathe), chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing” (www. nhlbi. nih. gov ).
The coughing often occurs at night or early in the morning. People with asthma have problems with moving air in and out of the lungs. The causes of asthma can be from the family history as it is a genetic factor. Also other causes for asthma can be smoking during pregnancy, children whose parents smoke and environmental pollution. The typical symptoms for asthma are coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. (www. hlbi. nih. gov, 16/05/2013) The mother has asthma due to is being passed on fro her parents. This is going to effect the physical development because she will be getting worn out easier and struggle to breathe when doing exercises. This could affect her when being in a job as if she rushing around all the time she will find her self with a shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing a lot. In her childhood it would of have effected her intellectual development as she may have struggles to do sports at school, leaving her feel left out and not able to participle in sports activities at school.
The Essay on Examples About Different Aspects of Development Can Affect One Another
Below are some examples of how different aspects of development can affect one another: 1. Sebastian is 6 years old and has just moved from Italy and has very poor English. He’s moved to a school where there are only children in the class with good level of English. Sebastian may be scared, confused and anxious about moving to another country with a different language. There will be a language ...
This may affect her socially and emotionally because she may feel she is unable to get things done because she may have a shortness of breath when rushing about. She could have been an inactive child therefore did go out to play with her friends often and didn’t really socialize. In this case study that I am doing the mother is pregnant and she has asthma which has been passed down from her family, the mothers son also has asthma, meaning there is a higher risk for the baby to be born with asthma as well.
The family will be treated with inhalers to relief their breathing. The son will be affected by the asthma, he will struggle with his intellectual development as he will be missing out on physical activities at school because he won’t be able to do a lot of exercise because he will get a shortness of breath. This will then go to effect the sons social skills because they wont be joining friendship groups and will be feeling left out because they can participate with others.
As the son gets older he will have to be careful in what job he takes, he will have to do something that doesn’t involve much exercise or pushing things around, so this can affect the kind of job role they have and how much money pays. It is significant that the members of family with asthma take their inhalers. Biological The biological influence I am going to do in this case study is Foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) this is when the mother is heavily drinking through the pregnancy when she is carry the baby this can cause facial and body defects to the baby.
The Essay on Mother And Child Development Babies Life
Psychosocial development in early childhood What sets human beings apart from other members of the animal kingdom is their power of mental functioning. It is strange therefore that the mental health and development of babies is not given the same attention as physical health and development. This is probably due to the fact that without physical life there is no mental life, and priority must be ...
Because of the mother heavily drinking through pregnancy the baby is the one that will suffer because there will be physical changes to the child’s development when the baby is born and when it is growing up. There is other consequences to heavily drinking in pregnancy not only can the baby be born with FAS the baby could die in the womb resulting to a still birth. There is an increase in chance of having a miscarriage if the mother drinks during pregnancy. FAS cause effects in which the brain develops and functions leading to problems with the brain.
The babies features could be changed for ever, but babies with FAS often have similar features. The problems that the baby could have are hearing problems, the upper lip can be very thin and there faces may have small eye openings. Then immune system and the liver can be weakened and damaged which means they have a higher risk of becoming Because they will take a lot longer to develop they may suffer with height problems. In this case study the mother is drinking heavily throughout the pregnancy which means the baby is at a very high risk of developing FAS.
When the child is born they could have different things that effect there development at school, they could have problems hearing which will affect their education at school and will need additional support, they will struggle to be able to listen to their friends and communicate with other children which by single them out from others and this will affect their social development. Because their immune system will be very weak the mother will have to be very careful when taking them out and will have to be careful what environments they are in so they don’t catch any thing that can cause any illnesses and effect their development even more.
Environmental The environmental factor I am going to look at is pollution. Air pollution can have a negative effect on your respiratory system and on your cardiovascular by making it harder to breath, irritating your respiratory system, triggering episodes of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD) and triggering episodes of heart conditions. If you live near factories or near industrial work places then you are at a higher risk of developing health problems. Air pollution can harm lung development in children, can help cause early childhood asthma.
The Essay on How Pollution Affects Us And Our Enviornment
A. Who makes up most of the pollution B. Who and what is harmed by pollution Conclusion: We need to use renewable resources and finding uses for waste products instead of creating pollution by throwing them out. Our environment is a crucial part of our lives, and we must learn how to treat it correctly. Without it we would not be living. We need to become more aware of the circumstances that are ...
People with asthma or other lung and heart conditions are most vulnerable to the effects of air pollution; children are especially vulnerable, since their lungs are still growing and developing, and they spend more time outdoors, and breathe faster than adults. Older adults, and adults who work or exercise outdoors for extended periods of time, are also vulnerable. Air pollution can result from both human and natural actions. Crop dusting, fumigating homes, household cleaning products or painting supplies, over the counter insect/pest killers, fertilizer dust release harmful chemicals into the air nd cause pollution. In this case study the mother and son are exposed to the pollution very highly because they live near an industrial estate, this is also dangerous to the unborn baby. Because of all the pollution around them this will have a negative effect on the family’s asthma problems. Because the baby’s organs will still be developing when the mother inhales the pollution this will have an effect on the baby and will increase the chances of the baby also suffering with asthma.
The lungs will be affected before the baby is even born and will affect its development and breathing. Because the family as a whole are affected by great amounts of pollution it is going to affect all their asthma and the chances of it getting worse is very high. Due to the poor living conditions and poor environment the son may feel isolated because of their poor living conditions he won’t want to bring friends round. This will affect his social and emotional development as their will be a lack of communication with his friends.
Social economic I am going to look at income as a social economic factor. Income comes from wages from work, benefits and interest from bank accounts. This then has a big influence on where you live. Income is not distributed equally in the UK. In 2004 it was found that the top 20% of households get around 15 times more money each year than the poorest 20% of households. But the poorer households can claim benefits. In 2001/2002 just over a sixth of Britain’s population where estimated to be living on a low income.
The Essay on How Secondhand Smoking Affects
How Secondhand Smoking Affects Us As most of you know, smoking is bad for your health, but what some of you might not know is that you don't actually have to smoke to be harmed by smoking. Lung cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women, is mainly caused by cigarette smoking. Secondhand smoking causes approximately 2 percent of lung cancer deaths each year. It causes ...
Income can affect the way in which children are educated, good income will mean the families will have shelter, food and warmth and will correct foods and appropriate housing and will want to send their children to school maybe be even private schools if they have a very good income and want their children to go to private schools. People with a very good income are less likely to be a risk of pollution because they normally have houses out in the country side where they won’t be affected as much.
If there is a low income then they might not have suitable housing it might be all damp, not warm and not enough living space for all the family. They are more likely to be living in towns near factories where there is a lot of pollution which means the children are more at risk of developing health issues. In the case study that I am doing the family has a low income and the mother is on benefits they are living in a town very close to factories which has a lot of pollution around it, the house is very damp and they are living in very poor living conditions which is not good for the families asthma of for the baby.
Because they don’t have a lot of money the family won’t go out and socialize with other people, be able to afford to go on holiday and the mother won’t be able to take her son out to do different activities, this will affect the mothers and sons social development and their physical development because they will be sat in the house and not out being active. Lifestyle choices The lifestyle choice I am going to look at is smoking. When smoking it can increase blood pressure and this can effect a person’s asthma. It causes a lot of breathing problems causing a lot of pressure on our lungs.
Tobacco contains chemical called nicotine that is very addicting. Once you start smoking or chewing tobacco, it’s very difficult to stop. But smoking doesn’t just affect your lungs. Your heart suffers too. Nicotine narrows blood vessels and decreases the amount of good cholesterol in the blood, leading to high blood pressure and heart disease. Smokers are also more prone to back pain than non-smokers because nicotine restricts the flow of blood to the discs that cushion your vertebrae and increases the rate of degenerative change.
The Essay on Income And Substitution Effects Of A Price Change
There are two types of good- normal good and inferior good that will be discussed. A normal good is affected by income positively. That means as income increased quantity decreases. Note that when it says income, income goes up, it means the real income or the purchasing power of the consumer. An inferior good, however, a good that may in the consumer eyes be the sign of cheapness, inferior ...
Smokers get wrinkly skin because the blood vessels tighten causing effects to our skin. When holding a cigarette is turns your fingers into a yellowish colour as nicotine stains, it also stains your teeth and the lungs are damaged from the amount of tar that sticks to the lungs. Smoking can cause a shortness of breathing and second hand smoking can also cause damage to health even though they are not smoking they are still inhaling it. If you are exposed to the chemicals for a long time the persons heart rate increases which results in the heart working harder to produce oxygen to pass through the body.
In the case study that I am doing the son is a smoker because he was influenced by his friendship group, he was peer pressured to smoke and has now become a regular smoker, smoking in the house. Because the son has asthma smoking isn’t the best option, it can effect it and make it a lot worse meaning he is more likely to be out of breath and struggle with breathing. The effects the mother and they baby as well because he is smoking in the house the mother is classed as a second hand smoker and she will be inhaling the chemicals, this will have an effect on the baby and increase the chances of asthma as the lungs are still developing.
If the son carries on smoking this can have long term effects on his physical development because smoking and asthma together will mean he will not be able to exercise without getting out of breath very quickly therefor will not be able to participate in physical activities with his friends, leaving him feeling emotionally unattached to his friends and feel left out. In this assignment I have spoken about a mother who is pregnant and has a genetic history of asthma which has been also passed down to her son and there is a very high chance of the baby developing it also.
The mother drinks a lot of alcohol during her pregnancy which can lead to a biological factor of FAS (foetal alcohol syndrome).
The family live in poor environments where it is much polluted causing health risks and have a very low income which means they are living in poor housing also having effects on their health. The son is a smoker which is affecting both him and the mother and baby as the mother is also inhaling the chemicals. I have explained how the five lifestyle factors affect their development. The Term Paper on Smoking And Your Health
Most people associate cigarette smoking and tobacco use with breathing problems and lung cancer. But smoking is also a major cause of cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) disease. Smoking: the No. 1 cause of preventable disease and death Smoking and tobacco use are significant risk factors for a variety of chronic disorders. According to the American Heart Association, cigarette smoking is the ...
