Team work is very important as it gives people the opportunity to come together, interact and work to achieve particular objectives. In the Forgotten Group Member, this team should engage in or stipulated by and directed towards one common goal to be successful so that they would be able to get a good grade on this assignment. Thus, it takes more than one person to accomplish this task and people were assigned various parts, wherein the need was to pool talents, knowledge and power in order to complete the work.
There are five stages of group development: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. However, I believe this group was at the performing stage because it was already formed, team coordinator chosen and have assimilated a common set of expectations of what defines the correct member behavior. The group energy had moved from getting to know and understand each other to performing the task at hand and should be fully functional. An understanding of the stages of group development would have helped Christine, as a team coordinator to understand why Mark behaved the way that he did.
If she had understood from the beginning, that effective teams held themselves accountable at both the individual and team levels, she would have spoken to him at the onset of noticing his minimal contribution. She could have reminded him that this team wanted to be the most effective and efficient but to do this, she needs his full contribution and on what they were individually and jointly responsible for. Thus, I think that the primary problems stem from unclear instructions from Christine, the team coordinator and other members of the group.
The Term Paper on Resolve The Conflict Team Group One
'There is immutable conflict at work in life and in business, a constant battle between peace and chaos. Neither can be mastered, but both can be influenced. How you go about it is the key to success' (Phillip Night 20 th century businessman) A team, theoretically, should work like a well-oiled machine. Like a state of the art machine most enlightened people should be able to function peacefully ...
Mike should have never been given the opportunity to dictate what he wanted because he was not the team leader. Instead, he should be coached, not only by the leader but other members from the group as well to have full responsibility for the part assigned to him regardless of his lifestyle. The secondary problems stem from the primary ones because Mike started to take things personally and be distant from the group. In this case individuals were given their part of assignment but all the tasks have not been fully proportional because of the life style of one team member – Mike.
As can be seen from the first meeting, he was uncooperative by giving excuses why he was constantly late for his classes and that this assignment could make it worse. I am sure that this was not his first class. He must have been doing individual ones on his own, wherein he had to ensure that the work was done all by himself to be successful. Therefore, being in a team, means that he has to put forth the same effort as in his individual classes to achieve a good grade.
For Mike to make an excuse at this stage of his life talking about watching television should be addressed immediately and let him know about his responsibilities, they should not be taken lightly. I believe if Christine had addressed Mike’s problems from the beginning he would not have been finding excuses all the time to say that he was working or having problems with his relationship. He had made up his mind from the beginning to send notes scribbled on paper as his contribution – how unfortunate. He seems to be the social loafer, wherein he was hiding from taking on full responsibilities as an individual in a group.
He refused to attend the meetings by finding many excuses. His contributions were minimal as he often sent scribbled notes on paper when he knew that group meetings were being held. What he was trying to do at this stage was to coast on the team’s effort because he thought that his individual contribution could not be identified. He sneaked up in the conversation without being noticed and started to accuse them of having a meeting without him. When they told him that there were no plans to meet but that they met by coincidence, he did not believe them.
The Coursework on Group Work Project Team Meeting
Project Evaluation Report: TECH Ltd This report is to critically evaluate the applications workshop project and how our group worked together. Our main objectives were to design the database for The Pine Furnishing Warehouse to the satisfaction of the manager of the company. We had to update or modify the system each time we received feedback from the manager. This was to ensure a more efficient ...
He was then invited to join in but was too upset and distant himself because he did not want to contribute. However, their written case analysis was due in the coming week and Mike only handed in scribbles on paper. This means that Christine being the team coordinator would have to rewrite his work. I think that Mike was an unreasonable person – he could have type written his part, edited and sent it to the group, in case the coordinator did not receive it. At least one other group member could have pass it on to her or even edited first, since it was all a group effort.
Therefore, I believe that Christine was an effective group leader because she was holding the meetings and getting the cooperation and good results from other team members. On the other hand, I think that she was ineffective because one team member was uncooperative. The problem should have being dealt with from the beginning in the first meeting but not. However, when Christine found out that she was in a crunch and a little too late to address the problems with Mike, she should have called on the professor to intervene, so that Mike could do his fair share of work like the others.
