There are four main groupings of characters, which each represent part of love and life. The Fairies, the Athenians, the Lovers and the Players. Act I is about the basic situation and it introduces the characters with a basic introduction to the characters. Act II introduces the fairies and the lovers in the forest.
Act III introduces the major action & the major confusion that Puck causes. In Act IV the lovers are returned to normal. In Act V the major commentary on human life is given. The Fairies represent the wonder and awe of life. They play a major role in showing the innocence of love. The fairies are thousands of years old and could care less about love, but they are also newborns and love the feeling of love.
I think Shakespeare used these characters to portray many areas of love in a single character to get many different feelings from one person. The Lovers were put in the play to represent, well, love. They are very fickle about who they love because the fairies screw around with their feelings. One lover loves somebody and then loves another person the next minute. Shakespeare tries to portray love as something that is not very easy to keep, but not hard to get. Shakespeare makes love seem like it is something mystical but also very human and dire to us.

The PI players did a great job on showing the main themes of love and the wonder of life. The players in the play acted as if they were very innocent and life was enchanting to them. The Fairies acted like they were dazzled by every word that the queen of the fairies said, and they like seemed as if they really were playing mind games with the lovers. I also thought the players were very good at entertaining the audience, and they all seemed to fit the roles very nicely. What I didn? t like too much was the tech crews screw ups, I thought the set was nice but when the stage fell I was about to laugh really, really hard.
