Pesticides have been used for a number of years and are continuing to be used despite the many problems these chemicals cause to the environment. In the 1930 s pesticides were used to boost farm yields by killing the many breeds of mites and flies that tormented the crops. Farmers since have grown dependent on such methods and more powerful effective pesticides have been produced. Unfortunately farmers are not the only people using pesticides, Golf courses and ordinary families also use pesticides for home gardens or to keep their grass growing green without flaws. I propose to research and discover which chemicals in some pesticides cause some of the environmental issues experienced today. I will then research and provide Healthy alternatives to these hazardous chemicals.
Research Paper will include: o Table showing pesticide Classes, Names, “Herbicide, Insecticide, fungicide”, Chemical make-up, and Effects on Environment. For example one of the chemical Classes of Pesticides is Organochlorine (Chlorinated Hydrocarbons), this includes benzene hexachloride, carbon tetrachloride and hexachlorobenzene as a few of the pesticides in this class. Hexachlorobenzene, is a herbicide used to kill unwanted ‘weeds’ (Dandelions).
In Animals, when exposed to Hexachlorobenzene birds experienced reduced hatchability, reproductive damage and liver damage; fish experienced body-swelling and liver and kidney damage; crustaceans experienced growth and mutations.
