When the word harassment is used, a person would usually think about an issue dealing physical abuse. “sexual harassment is unwelcome attention of a sexual nature and is a form of illegal and social harassment. It includes a range of behavior from seemingly mild transgressions and annoyances to actual sexual abuse or sexual assault.” (Dziech et al 1990, Boland 2002)
Being harassed by any form of fashion is an unfortunate situation to deal with. Being sexual harassed is unjust. Fortunately, The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sets laws against sexual harassment crimes. “Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. This act was put in to place to protect the employer and or the employee. Employers are to provide their employees with specific details about what is considered a form of sexual harassment within their organization. The employer is also responsible for explaining the consequences to the employee if the sitaution arrises.The victim should immediately notify their manager in writing. Having all the necessary information in writing is beneficial for the victim, especially if the case ends up in court.

Types of Sexual Harassment
There are several different types of sexual harassment. One example is called “Quid pro quo” means “this for that.” (2008 Palo Alto Medical
Foundation) This type of harasment can be considered almost in comparison to a bribe. In Quid pro quo cases, sexual exchanges are asked to be made to be somewhat beneficial to the victim. A perfect example is when a person is interested in a higher position at work. Exchanges for sex can be made towards the victim to be able to get the higher position that they were interested in.
Unwanted touching, comments, brushing up against are forms of sexual harassment. These examples are not acceptable even if it is from a person that the victim is familiar with.
Also, using offensive language is a form of sexual harassment. Calling a person “pet” names such as “sweetie” can be considered a form of sexual harassment and is also disrespectful to the victim.

The way they lure their victims in is they prey on those who tend to have low self esteem or a person that is gullible. The harasser then uses their nurturing expertise to make the victim feel like the harasser guinually cares for them. In using that technique the harasser then says all the right things that the victim wants and needs to hear. This is when the harasser makes a sexual advance to the victim. These people are in need of being and feeling like they are in control of the victim.

The Risk-Taker is fully aware of their wrong doings and will continue to harass the victim. They will prey on the victim’s weaknesses and take full advantage of the victim.

The Seducer-Demander is another type of Sexual harasser. The Seducer will use their authoritative positions to get the victim to participate in a sexual encounter with them. One thing that is different about the Seducer is that the Seducer needs to feel loved or important. The next to the last type is a Pedophile. This is a person with a seriously ill mind. A Pedophile is a person who has or will make sexual advances with a child. A Pedophile can be a family member or also the nice man or woman that lives next door. Pedophiles are people who hang out around locations that will have large amounts of children. For example; A Pedophile will be around parks, schools, and daycare centers. The Pedophile will then watch and learn the child and possibly the family’s routine. They do this so they can find the perfect opportunity to victimize their prey. Most Pedophiles are men. There are websites that are available to locate sex offenders in area in which they live.
The last example of a harasser is the Bully. This type of harasser will make the victims life miserable. If the harasser and victim are in the same work environment, the bully will send inappropriate emails. If the harasser is someone in a higher position at work then the victim will be given negative feedback about their job performance in order to continue to make the victim feel bad.
Laws against Sexual Harassment
There are several laws against Sexual Harassment. One important law is Federal Law that was mentioned previously in this essay. There are also laws against Sexual Harassment for each individual state. I chose to look into the state of North Carolina laws. The laws for North Carolina are similar to several states. Generally the law is that the EEOC will look into each case brought to them. North Carolina is similar to many other states. The state of North Carolina is on a case by case status. All cases will be addressed accordingly.
Laws are not meant to be broken. If a person feels that they have been Sexually Harassed, it needs to be reported immediately. No one should have to suffer and be disrespected in any form or fashion. Whether the issue has happened at the victim’s place of employment or outside of work it has to be reported to resolve the issue. There are many people suffering daily because of what they are holding inside about being Sexually Harassed. There are hotlines available if the person is too uncomfortable in speaking to someone face to face. Everyone should be able to take advantage of the services provided to help make and continue to make sure that no one has to be a victim and suffer alone.
