The Role of Technology in Building and Destroying the Society
Introduction
Technology is something that the society cannot escape from. It plays a critical role in most aspects of the lives of people in the society, and answers many of their problems. Is very significance because always directs for easiness in the people lives with the aim of enhancing comfort of use in whatever forms. Whatever the role of the technology might be, there are always different views about it. Nevertheless, technology not only affects the present time, but also predicts the future. Though predicting the future is not possible, it does not mean that a person can’t reasonable assert what lies ahead. The technology has changed throughout history, from ancient civilization to modern computer devices and an individual to believe that technology cannot and will not change in the future will be left behind. In the society, technology will always change and without it, it will be very hard to nearly impossible to be competitive, flat, on demand and transparency. In the modern world, technology I a phenomenon in which the society can interact, plan, communicate, organize and manage everything across the world in mere seconds and at a little or no cost. It might also be more different in 2 or more years to come.
The impacts of technology underlie global challenges. In contrast, since the enlightenment, technology, particularly science-base technology, has provided the promise of a better society through the elimination of disease and material improvements to standards of living. On the other hand, extraction of resources, emissions of hazardous materials and pollution of air, soil and water have formed situations for unprecedented environmental catastrophe and caused irreversible damageto the biosphere. These destroy the well being of the society since the entire effect are experienced by the society. While the future might promise an advancement of technological innovation, the impact of environmental degradation has severe impacts on the welfare of the society. An associated painful paradox about technology is that, despite the continuing technological revolution, the majority of the society still lives in below the living standards with insufficient food, energy, housing and plagued illness, which could be easily treated if simple drugs and clean water were made presents (Gross, 2010).
The Essay on The Impact of Changing Technology on the Everyday Life
The changing technology in housing in the post-war period such as the introduction of new, more efficient designs that focused on functionality and minimal details improved the Australian way of life. The use of these designs made housing affordable for lower-class families. The new designs also persuaded Australians to reject conservative values of previous periods and embraced the idea of ...
The persevering contradiction between a better life formationof the society formed and supported technology for the wealthy people in the society and increases environmental destruction and continuing poverty for the vast majority calls for a deeper exploration and comprehension of the nature of technology and its association to society, particularly to a sustainable society. Moreover, in the context of the effort to promote a great transformation to a sustainable global society, in which deep changes in values, cultures, governance, business, consumption pattens and institutions are envisaged. The question about the role of technology in in building and destroying the society become even more persistent, such as;
Would be a great change society needs an intensive utilization of technology, which will later destroy it,to promote its values?
Would a society essentially restore the best values before the evolution of technology when it offered a scarce, incremental extension of human potential to transform nature?
Definition of technology
The term technology comprises of three meanings, instruments and tools to enable human capability to shape the nature and solve issues, knowledge of how to build things or how to solve issues, and culture, the society way of life. Since the emergence of technology, most things have been developed as well as knowledge, thus promoting the welfare of the society (Haugen, 2007).
The Essay on Human Nature 6
Human nature has always emphasized on achieving more. As the history prevail the first ever invention of human was a wheel, and ever since the development of wheel, the mankind has always been in a continuous strive to achieve more. Information is an integral part of human life and the technology has always played an eminent role to increase the lifestyle and living standards of mankind. ...
Taking into account literature, technology is taken as a process of bringing innovative ideas to the society whereby innovation shows the elaboration and prototyping of novel technology into the society.
The impact of technological development to the society
Drawing from 17th century philosopher such as Bacon and Descartes, technology unlocks the keys to human being mastery over nature, and expanded dominance over nature is viewed as synonymous with societal progress. Since the enlightenment, the growth of technology has been related to the triumph of reason and over religion and superstition. Knowledge grounded on empirical look and rational thinking has been the foundation on which technological innovation has developed. Modernity and modernization have been synonymous with technological growth.
The notion that technology could have unintended implications is also moderately new. Though the Ludidities of the 19th century smashed the machines that were viewed as a threat to their employment, and the Romantics criticized the desensitizing much of industrialization, most prevalent anxiety about and resistance to technology had not evolved. For example, the unprecedented damage unleashed by the bombing of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima spurred most people to question the form of the individual scientist ethical accountability (Gross, 2010).
Technology has developed under scrutiny due to the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War and the persevering of dioxin contamination and birth defects among American service members and the Vietnamese thereafter. As a result, a wage campaign protesting against the utilization of nuclear energy and the possible health implications of low doses of utraviolent radiation frankly uranium, mining and nuclear testing as well as their waste evolved. Moreover, there are other environmental and health challenges that followed such as; the implication of air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution on health, environment and food chain and in the reproductive organs of a human being. Likewise, with the emergence of the biochemical knowledge, the likelihood of manipulation of the DNA of plants, microbes and animals, new hazardous problems has evolved. For example, the development of artificial mutations and pathogens that formed new risks for safety, health and the surrounding (Duru&Balkis, 2013).
The Essay on Pros and Cons: Technology in Education
Even though a teacher and textbook is the best way to succeed in a class, a student only has access to a teacher for about45 minutes, and even then, if every other student, let's say there's 23 students, asks for help from the teacher and takes 2 minutes, that means that it is very likely that a student won't get access to the teacher, but on the other hand, the internet is always available. ...
The biological, chemical and nuclear arms race of course contributed to these apprehensions.
Objectives of this paper
The objective of this research paper is to explore the role of technology in building and destroying the society through reflection on the role of technology during the change of the society and in the future of the society. Technology will always support and promote a good life for the society. A good life needs essentially that basic human necessities are achieved and aspirations for freedom belonging, and society-realization is accomplished. Thus, technological advancement is considered to be an instrument that build and destroy the society.
Methodology of this study
This research paper is about the role of technology in building and destroying the society. In this paper I have focused on technological development and its utilization by the society. Therefore, I did not follow any form of a particular methodology or tools to make this research paper. Instead of using general research tools, I have used the online articles as the research tools for this study. Thus, the concept of this paper is taken from those articles.
Results of the study
Drawing from the entire research articles that I focused on, technology has been regarded as a primary element in the contemporary world. It plays a significant role in almost everything that the society requires. Connecting technology with education, technology has been the major contribution on technology. Technology in education institutions has made a dramatic improvements of education over the years. For example, the use of computers in education has gone beyond school with classrooms where students can use computers to learn. Access to computers, particularly, has become very easy for learners to get. There is no restriction of technology because the usage of DVD players, Videos, and Projectors are also used. These varieties have become common in the educational institutions. Through this, they help the society access to knowledge and information, which they could not have got. This builds the society, knowledge and modify its norms as well as values.
The Essay on Integrating Technology and Education
This essay discusses several examples of the way in which technology begun to move into the classroom.IIntroductionTechnology has become an important part of our lives. While we may think of technology mainly in terms of science and the computer industry, it also plays an increasingly large part in education, in various ways. This paper explores briefly some of the uses of technology in ...
The learning process is enhanced through utilization of technology. For example, with the use of internet in education institutions, it permits teachers to access a vast amount if information just in a matter of seconds. This information can be offered to learners in a clear, concise and easy formats. With such easy access to such information, learners are in a position to learn more in a smaller time span, while instructors are capable of teaching more efficient. However, with the use of technology, society bears the negative impacts of its. The use of internet destroys the society norms since some people misuse it for the meant purpose. Internet accessibility helps people to see phonographic material, which later bring to the society for the practice. It is for this reason that rape cases has increased in the recent period than it was before 20years ago. In most cases, students use the internet for money through exposing their bodies. They also participate in practicing ponography and in the production of such materials. The society does not at all appreciate such practice. It is against the societal morals and integrity. Also, despite the capability of technology to improve the classroom and involve learners more effectively in today’s world, most people do not understand that it substitutes the need for a content driven, and structured process of learning that is based on the theory. To give positive output, it necessitates that technology-grounded tool supplement suitable pedagogy. Having analyzed that, a national study carried out in 2001 indicated that 87% of staff are of the believe that computer technology improves the learning potential of a student.
Irrespective of this common belief that technology use in the classroom is all-purpose effective, such is not likely to be the case always. Burbules&Callister (2000) are of the view that technology can be used well or poorly used, and hence its impact depends on how it effectively used, that is by whom and also for what intended purpose.
The Essay on How Has Modern Technology Improved People’s Lives
The major achievements of technology have left man spell-bound and every part of the world today is enjoying the comforts provided by technology. Thanks to technology, all the countries are interlinked and we are now living in a global village. Modern technology has greatly improved people's lives through different fields such as medicine, work, education, industry as well as warfare. However, we ...
Technology is no longer a tool for mankind’s exploitation, but has become the setting in which human being experiences change. When it is recognized that the society can only preserve the technology against its woes, it is as though the society acknowledges the dominance of technology over the activities of the society. Technology acknowledge the society to formulate objects, but does not acknowledge it, whether the objects should be formulated at the start. Essentially, technology, signifies a modern and seemingly irrevocable historical moment, in which the question about its role is no longer answered. Instead, the question of how technology changes the society becomes the probable question to be answered (Laudon&Traver, 2002).
The perception of the society about the role of technology is diverse. Considering the education sector, educators adopt diversified levels of technology in their teaching. For instance, some educators might use slides of power point or technology of similar capacity either moderately or extensively all through a course. In contrary, others never or rarely use technology. Several reasons may be attributed to why educators to a greater extent adopt technology in their practice. For some, it might aid them to develop more focused, and better organized lectures. While others think that technology use profits students by involving them much better within the classroom environment and enables them to listen much better without transcribing each word that is verbalized. Some of the educators may opt to use technology because writing on blackboards or whiteboards limit their capabilities to fully interact with the learners. Other instructors opt to use technology on reason that it is a time saving tool since it is readily accessible today, given that the curriculum publishers are willing to convince the senior staff to utilize their textbooks. Even if motivation may vary, the overall anticipation is that the use of technology will enhance the course, involve the learners and allow them to learn a lot. There might also be the slightest be the embedded hope by members of the faculty that evaluation in teaching will advance.
The Term Paper on History of science, technology, society, and nature/environment
Thomas Hughes is a symbol of technological advancement in relation to evolving scientific facts, environment and social order. He was initially trained as an Engineer and showed that technology consists of systems and not merely artefacts. This systems embodies social aspects as well as technological aspects. This led to the social construction of the technological system. He offers a means to ...
Limitations of this study
Some of the limitations I experienced are;
- Most articles talking about similar things, in which some are outdated
- Due to lack of experiences in a research study, about getting information through the internet, there are shortages of data.
- Difficulties in gaining access to some internet databases
Discussion
Since the emergence of technology, many aspects of the society have been modified. One of societal aspect is education, which has been affected by the growth of technology over the world. The innovative computer systems and internet have permitted learning to be made more accessible to the society. As a result, many things both negative and positive has emerged. In everyday societal life, there seems to be developing of new breakthroughs whereby most of them assist the society in making thing easier. Technology is a very significant aspects of the society because it enlightens them on a new way of doing things.
We cannot deny the fact that technology plays a critical role in the societal daily lives. According to Kroeze(2011), modern technology leaves the society, both exhilarated and terrified. Is shows its tremendous impact on the society and nature. The society seems to fail to consider whether people really master the technology or not. As a matter of fact, people fail to master the technology because of turning back to the primitive society. For, example, the western civilization collapsed as a result of technology (Cullingford&Haq, 2009).
Therefore, it is reasonable to claim that technology is destroying the society civilization. In the modern world, there are so many environmental problems that are already present such as greenhouse gas effects, pollution, nuclear flotsam and overpopulation, meaning that the intrinsic greediness and everlasting dissatisfaction is ultimately leading the society to perdition.
Considering the utilization of fossil fuel in the past, people utilized to use coal as a key source of energy. After the industrial revolution, people started using oil and then natural gas. Today, these are the main energy sources whereby the rate of exploitation does not catch up the rate of consumption. This is due to the rate of increase of the population where fossil fuels have a high demand. The use of fossil fuels by the society to sustain its high standard of life deplete the resources of the society. Nevertheless, when resource issues occur, the society attempt to develop substitutes. However, this is not usually possible because no one acknowledges what will happen in future.
Conclusion
It is clear that technology is very important, useful and saves time. Whatever technology does impacts the society. Everyday technology grows with more advances. By utilizing technology, it can have both positive and negative impacts on the society, although negative are less than positive. Thus, anything that occurs within the society is balanced by nature, and as nature tries to balance between the good and the bad, the society fears the revenge of it. Technology is enhanced by nature and human being cannot be able to break the equilibrium between nature and them. The role of technology is to make thing easier to the society. It builds the society through progressive change and growth, but also destroy it through the process of attempting to eliminate the gap that exists between it and the society or simply equilibrium.
