I believe that marijuana is a gateway drug, because many people especially teenagers try and began to use marijuana, and then move on to stronger and more addictive drugs. In this story, after Alice accidentally has a drug trip with LSD, she intentionally begins using other drugs and once that isn’t enough for her, she starts trying harder drugs. From my own personal experience, I’ve actually had friends who have tried marijuana and continuous did it for a couple months. He was doing okay on marijuana and then starting trying other drugs, and became so addicted to them that he even stopped using marijuana anymore because it didn’t give him the expected drug trip he wanted.
Economics of Drug Legalization: Marijuana As we enter into the year 2002 America finds itself at odds with a well-known and highly demonized "enemy." The enemy is not terrorism. It is not Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden. It's an "enemy" that many Americans have dealt with face to face. The so-called enemy is illegal drugs, marijuana in particular. Marijuana is the most widely used and ...
Studies show that marijuana can be referred to as a gateway drug, because individuals that use marijuana as teenagers are increasingly more likely to try and use other more intensive drugs as they get older. A study of Australian adolescents during a 10 year period, shows that those who were smoking marijuana at the age of 15 were as much as 15 times more likely to be using amphetamines in their early 20s . This proves that marijuana can be a gateway drug, despite other influences such as friends, family, environment.
There are studies that prove that teenaged who use the popular drug marijuana do move on to harder less popular drugs such a cocaine and heroin. 2 percent of adults who had used marijuana before the age of 15 have used or tried cocaine at some point during their lives. For those who had never used marijuana, that number is 0.6 percent. Those who use marijuana in youth are more likely to try or use heroin. That number is 9 percent as compared to 0.1 percent for those who had never used marijuana.
Considering all the information, facts and statistics above that prove that marijuana is a gateway drug especially for teenagers, and individuals aged 14-24, one can be persuaded to agree with the fact that marijuana is a gateway drug. From my own experiences and Alice’s experience one can also agree that marijuana does open doors for people into harder more addictive drugs.

Are drugs in our community are problem for our children?
Last night an underage young girl was found at her babysitting job strung out on LSD. The police found a bowl with peanuts containing LSD which they seem to think the girl was consuming. According to some sources which cannot be named this young person already has a drug record, which might be one of the reasons she was institutionalize. Two others girls attending the same school as the accused claimed that she always tried to sell drugs to them and at their school she was known as a big time drug dealer. I talked to her teachers and principal and they all said the same thing, that this girl used to be a model student until recently when she started changing and missing classes, her grades dropped, she ran away a couple times, but recently they have seen some positive changes in her. This young girl could have been anyone in this town daughter and that is probably the most scariest part until this morning when I found out that my daughter used to socialize with this girl.
In this paper I will be analyzing the various aspects of American culture in terms of drug use and abuse particularly marijuana, such as legislation, the media’s relationship to drug use, drug use and advertising. Methods of Obtaining Evidence:
Interviews with key witnesses and drug users
Stakeouts and phone tapping
I believe Alice is a intelligent capable young women that was having trouble making friends till she started using drugs and everything was better, every single aspect of her life. Now she is getting addicted and she does not know where her addiction will take her. I recommend we try to do some sort of intervention in order to still preserve the innocence of this young women. Jail time would only expose her to more harsh realities of the world which in turn might make her go to the opposite way even faster. She has made some recent strives in school and life to try to get off drugs and do better but I feel she would have more success with some assistance.
Benefits and downsides of drug testing in schools/ Help for those who test positive.
