Setting
The book I read was Stay With Me by, Garret Freymann – Weyr. In this book the setting at first was in Brooklyn, New York. As the book goes on the main character in this book Leila, ends up moving in with her sister Claire who also lives in Brooklyn. In this book the main setting is in Brooklyn. The only other setting in this book is Poland. Leila’s parents vacation there.
This is important because it’s a big city and news dose not travel as fast as it would in a small town. After Leila’s sister commits suicide one would think that the whole family would know in about two days. It actually takes the news about 2-weeks to get to the whole family. If the setting wasn’t in Brooklyn then maybe the news would have gotten around quicker than it did. That’s why the setting is important to the book.
The setting fits into the plot because, it shows the even though it’s a big city that one may conceder being wonderful one may still need to get away from it. In this book it shows that because of all that’s happened to his family, Leila’s mother and father need to get away from the city; so they go to Poland for a couple of weeks. Also it shows that even though Lelia stayed in Brooklyn, she really wanted to get away from all of the hassle of the city, and went to live with her sister in the outskirts of Brooklyn with her sister.
The Review on Book Report 2
The book 1776 by David McCullough tells the story of the military aspects of the American Revolution. McCullough writes the book from both the British and American point of views, creating a better understanding of what both sides were undergoing during the war. Not only does he have a degree from Yale, but McCullough has also been awarded with the nations highest civilian award, the Presidential ...
Those are some of the reasons that the setting of the book are important to the book. Also how the setting fits in with the plot of the book. On the next page one will come to get to know two main characters of this book.
Characterization
There are many characters in this book but I will only be informing the reader about two. The first main character in this book is Lelia. The youngest of three daughters of two different mothers. The second main character of this book is Claire. The third of three children. These are the two main characters of this book.
Lelian is sixteen years old. She is the youngest of all three sisters. Lelia was almost like am outcast when it came to her sisters. It seemed like this because her sisters were so much older than she was. Lelia had dyslexia, which made it hard for her to read and comprehend certain things. In the book it seems like this is Lelia’s only problem. Lelia is very close to her mother, Lelia and her father do not get along as much as they could. Lelia becomes determined to find out why her sister committed suicide. She become wrapped up in why it happened.
Claire is the second main character. She is twenty-two years old. Claire was the closest to her sister who commits suicide. She becomes afraid to answer the phone after she got the news by phone. Claire was anorexic during high school. She got this habit from her sister who threw up all through college. She is very understanding of Lelia’s emotions about anything: boys, school, and of course her sister’s death. Claire is a strong woman who decides everything for herself.
Those are the two main characters. Also a little bit about each of them. On the next page one will read about the first conflict in this book.
Initial conflict
The first conflict in this book is when The oldest of the three sisters Rebecca commits suicide. None of the characters in this book know why Rebecca commits suicide but Lelia is determined to find out why. This portion of my book analysis will show how Rebecca committed suicide.
In the beginning of this book Rebecca and Lelia often talk. At one of these meetings Lelia asks Rebecca about the scars on her forearms. Rebecca informs her that two years earlier she tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists. Lelia finds this very shocking and wants to learn more but is afraid to ask. Lelia dose not think that Rebecca would try to commit suicide again and succeed. Lelia said that Rebecca’s death was “ an unwritten, secret story the she was waiting to tell me”.
The Essay on Book Critique on ‘Suicide’
Book Critique on ‘Suicide’ by Emile Durkheim Nearly a century ago, the French sociologist Emile Durkheim became interested in the phenomenon of suicide. Why, he asked, do people kill themselves? In his day, the common answer to such a question is: the suicidal person is depressed or mentally ill or has suffered an unbearable loss. An alternative philosophical answer is also presented: an ...
After Rebecca’s death, Claire and her father try to find out how and why she committed suicide. They found out that Rebecca had been filling out pill prescriptions and signing her doctors name so that she could get the pills with no one knowing. Rebecca died of an overdose from pills. No one realized that Rebecca had been taking these pills until she was found with all the prescriptions she had written out herself. After Claire and her father found this out, they did some research and found out that Rebecca had been writing out her own prescriptions for months.
That was the initial conflict of this book. On the next page one will read about the climax of this book. The climax is basically the “point of no return” in the book.
Climax
The climax in this book is when Lelia finally gets a hold of the last person she saw Rebecca with. This is the climax because Lelia had been searching and searching for this man because she thought he might know why Rebecca committed suicide. Little does Lelia know that this man has nothing to do with Rebecca’s death.
After Lelia moves in with her sister Claire she looks around Rebecca’s room. She finds Rebecca’s address book and decided to see who her last appointment was with. Lelia found a date that was close to her sisters death in October. It read “4:00 w/ T. Caffe Acca.” Lelia finds this strange because there is no one in Rebbeca’s address book under the name of “T”.
Lelia ends up asking Clarire if she knows anyone that Rebecca called “T”? Claire is a lot of help because she knows the mans real name: Adrien Tilden. Lelia had an idea of meeting Adrien at her work and ask about his sister but, by the time Adrien shows up Lelia has no time to talk to him. She becomes very impatient and decided to look him up and write him a letter. When she gets a response back it is nearly two months later.
Adrien informs Lelia that his and Rebecca’s visit was purely a friendly visit. He didn’t have any information about Rebecca’s death. Leila was devastated to know that she was right back where she started. She knew nothing about her sisters death. That is the climax of this book. On the next page one will find the theme of the book.
The Review on Book Report My Sister My Sorrow
Book Report " My Sister, My Sorrow" by Bebe Fa as Rice, explores the natural human reactions to death, sickness and love. It delves into sibling rivalry, adolescent fear and stereotypes and gives insight into how beautiful the world seems when your life is on the line." Theme
The dominate theme is this book is hope. Through this whole book Lelia never gives up hope on anything. She is determined to figure out why Rebecca committed suicide. She wont give up on looking for the answers to her sister death. A supporting theme would be love. This would also be a theme because throughout this book Lelia finds love and learns about it.
Lelia has trouble deciphering a lot of things, but that does not stop her from trying to find out more about her sister. She wanted to figure out the mystery of her sisters death and, she never gave up. Lelia never gave up on her parents either. After Rebecca’s death her father became very depressed. Lelia did everything in her power to try and keep her father happy. She hoped that with her help her father would recover from his depression and that he would be his old self one day.
In the beginning of this book Lelia is dating a boy name Ben. She believed that she was in love with Ben but later in the book that she is actually not in love. Later in the book she finds that she falls for a man named Eamon. She decided that she never really loved Ben the way that she loves Eamon. This is important because it shows that Lelia is growing up and maturing in the way that she sees love.
Those are the themes of this book. Both are important in their own ways.
