Book Review of: Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl Over the past few weeks, I have read Danny the Champion of the World. The book is about a young boy, Danny, who lives alone with his dad in an old gypsy caravan. One day, Danny finds out that his dad has been keeping a secret from him and it leads him to go on an amazing journey. I’ll tell you that it was a very enjoyable book for many reasons, like creative language and a very good story. The author’s way of expressing characters feelings through wording and actions helps the reader to feel and experience the same as the character.
Since the book is told from Danny’s view point. You get to see how he feels and thinks about situations and other people. For example, in the book, Mr. Hazell shows up at Danny’s home and he is very angry. “The language he used was so foul and filthy it scorched my earholes. ” I mean, what author would use “earholes” and not just ears? Roald Dahl also creates Danny as a wondrous kid by making him seem so interested in every little thing. When he and his dad were walking to the schoolhouse, Danny told how he loved these walks.
“Mostly it was he who talked and I who listened, and just about everything he said was fascinating. ” From these words and others that Danny says to us, we can get a really good picture on his dad’s personality. Also, it isn’t just like all the traits come out in the first chapter, but throughout the whole book we are still learning more things about the dad. This book was a great read, especially when you need a break from the everyday normal life. This book will brighten up your day and you won’t want to put it down. I give Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl, 5 out of 5.
