A Mother’s Gift by Bri they and Lynne Spears Holly Faye Lovell is a small town girl from Biscay, Mississippi. She sure can sing! At fourteen, she becomes the youngest student ever to win a full scholarship to a very prestigious music school- Haverty School of Music, and is on her way to pursuing her career! The only bad part is that for the first time in her life, she ” ll have to leave her mother, Wanda, behind. Even though they weren’t very wealthy, they ” ve always loved each other very much. Holly’s mother has an ugly red scar on the side of her face that makes people who don’t know her uncomfortable.
Ever since Holly began her new life at Haverty, she’s been ashamed and embarrassed by her mother, and their humble background. Later in the story, Wanda reveals a deep secret… a secret that could destroy their bond forever. My favorite part of the book is when she relieves her acceptance letter from Haverty.
When she opens the box, she sees her sweater and is very because she thinks she was rejected. Then, she sees the letter in the bottom of the box… And since she was before, it only makes her happier to know that she got in! My least favorite part of the book is when she fails to invite her mom to Parent’s Weekend. She did this because she was ashamed of her old car, her southern accent and her scar. I think that is a rotten reason to not invite your mom to something she would love to come to. I would recommend this book report for a 6 th grade reading level.

This book was so informative that it is so hard to pick only two parts that impacted me the most. If I have to choose only two the first would be Chapter Eight, " The Poor and Rich in Love." As Mother Theresa makes so many points in this section. The stories she tells about bringing ...
The vocabulary is simple, and the plot is interesting enough to hold attention. It is not difficult to understand and most 6 th graders are fond of one of the authors- Britney Spears!
