In order to understand The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer it is important to investigate author characterization and theme.
There are many characters in the Opium Business that are evil, however some characters are good. Matt is the clone of El Patron and the main character. The story follows Matt’s life starting from when he is six years of age to when he is 14. During his early childhood Matt is living in hazardous life conditions. For example, when Matt is six he is left in a room full of wood shavings so the maid does not have to clean up after him. After El Patron rescues Matt he grows up to be more caring and becomes a smarter student. Matt goes through a lot of hardships through his time in the Alacran household and after he escapes it. El Patron is like a father to Matt. The second El Patron finds out about Matt’s treatment he goes to rescue him and makes sure no one harms Matt again. The Term Paper on Federal Funding For Stem Cell Research
Federal Funding for Stem Cell Research The research of stem cells was started not so long ago, in 1998, when Dr. James A. Thomson, a biologist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison made his discovery of stem cells possibilities. However, many other people do not let him do these things. Tam Lin helped Matt escape from the Alacran estate when he was about to be killed and gave him freedom no one else gave him. As the story grows Tam Lin becomes more and more like a father to Matt and is trusted by Matt the most. Celia is like a mom to Matt. She raises Matt since he was a child and protects him from people like El Patron who need him for his heart transplant. For example, early in Matt’s childhood Celia gives him medicine and different substances that would protect Matt from heart transplant by killing the other person. After Celia is caught protecting Matt from transplant she is in danger of being killed, but Tam Lin saves her. There were many more people in Matt’s life, however these were the main four.
The theme of this novel is you should not judge a person no matter who they are. Matt jumped out of the window and was hurt when Steven, one of El Patron great grandson’s, helps carry him back to the Estate. Matt is taken care of highly because he was wounded and bleeding. The instant Rosa finds Matt’s tattoo that said he was a clone, everyone started treating him horrible and Matt is thrown out of the house. If the reader would compare El Patron to Matt, they would find El Patron is treated like a god compared to Matt who is treated like a beast. Matt may be El Patron’s clone, however he is treated exactly the opposite as him. Another example of this is whenever El Patron has a heart attack he kills his clone and takes his heart. If everyone is treated fairly then El Patron would be dead years ago. Even though El Patron and the other rich people living in his estate do not follow to the theme of the story, a reader can tell there are many characters fighting for it. There were many different messages in this novel, however never judging a person no matter who they are is the most accurate.
