Book Report: Where the Red Fern Grows
Where the Red Fern Grows, is a novel written by Wilson Rawls, and originally published by The Curtis Publishing Company in 1961. Wilson Rawls was born in the Oklahoma Ozarks (also the setting of the book) and spent most of his childhood wandering around the Ozarks with his blue-tick hound. He did not really learn how to write until his family moved away and he was able to attend school. Where the Red Fern Grows is the only book I could find written by him, but in the past few years it has been turned into a very successful movie.
The reason I choose to do my book report is that in Grade 5, my teacher told me to read this book as punishment for misbehaving. Being who I am I decided to watch the movie. The movie was so good that I decided to use the book as for my book report. I must say that this book was as good as the movie, which I really enjoyed.
This novel takes place in the Ozarks. The Ozarks is a mountain range in Oklahoma. The book is the story of a young boy, Billy and the two dogs that he saved up to buy when money was scarce. The book is the adventures they have and the prizes they win. Billy and his two dogs, Little Ann, and Old Dan are very likable characters. Billy is a young boy, who is caught by dog fever, and Little Ann is the smallest little coonhound ever, but also the best. Old Dan is a very loyal dog that is Little Ann’s faithful companion and Billy’s best friend.
The book starts with the telling of Billy’s story and how he saved up for over a year to purchase his dogs. He teaches his dogs to be the best coonhounds in the county and they deal with the problems they face together. Billy and his dogs deal with death, love and other dogs during the course of this book. The climax of the book is probably when Billy and his dogs win a large coon-hunting competition. When they achieve this goal, they bring home over three hundred dollars-a lot of money in those days. The ending of this book is very sad, and it made me cry (hard to do).
The Essay on Hound Dog Dogs Billy Hunting
Billy was walking home one day when there was a dog fight in the ally and he went to investigate to see what was going on and there was a bunch of dog's beating up on one dog so he decided to get involved and break it up. They all scattered away when they saw him coming. The dog that was getting beat up on was lying on the ground in what looked like a lot of pain. He rushed over and noticed he was ...
One of the best parts of this book is the way it ends, and to spoil the surprise would ruin the experience if you ever read it.
This novel is about the love between man and “man’s best friend.” No animal in the world is more loyal than a dog. Though the book’s theme is very simple, it is one of the best books ever written.
I think that this book is the best book I have ever read. The author successfully tells the story of Billy. This story really shows life in that time and I think that everyone should read it. The only problem with this book is that it is too long. Though there is very little detail given, I found that it took forever to read. But as this is the only fault that I could find, I believe that this book is much better than any other I have ever read. I say again, read it or you are really missing out.
