Freedom Writers
In the movie Freedom Writers movie students have all the same problem. They trust their ethnic group because they feel much safer than other group. This brought segregation between them. They believe in protecting their own at any cost as we see Eva one of the actress protecting their own. This shows that they really insecure with people they never met. My students belonged to gang groups because this is where they feel secure. Eva Benita harassed those who were different to her because she helped her gang to enter school and start up a fight with other students. Miss Erin Gruwell their English teacher saw that she was teaching a highly charged racially students, they even tried to fight in class. .They believe that the people in their group are better just like how the Nazis felt that only people with blonde hair and blue eyes deserved to live. Inside the schools they can be seen in their groups not mixing with others. Tito one of the students drew a cartoon with circulated the class making fun of Andre.

Miss Gruwell played a great role in changing them from worse to better. In the beginning students did not want to respect her. Since she does not give up that easily she kept on hanging. She even told them to earn respect you have to give in back but Andre said “ Why should I give you my respect to you? Because you’re a teacher? I don’t know you. How do I know you’re not a liar standing up there. How do I know you’re not a bad person standing up there? I’m not just gonna give you my respect because you’re called a teacher.’’ Eva also said that White people wanting their respect like its for free.’’(Freedom Writers, 2007) From the beginning of the movie students acted like they do not want to be taught by her as they thought she was like others teacher. Despite the fact that her students does not want to participate in class she step up a tired various ways to change them.
As she knew their backgrounds and leant more of them Miss Erin took an extra job to raise money so that she can buy them new books because the school could not provide them with new book since they were students who did not want to learn and they would destroy the books. Students were surprised to see them being given books to read. She also made them read more books and their marks to improve as well as their reading skills.
Miss Erin said that since everyone has a story to tell, she made them write their life experiences in the journal which she had bought by her money. Students started to know how to pick a pen as a substitute take automatic weapons. She made sure that they even wrote in them every day. After she read their work she felt sorry for them. They started to open up slowly and they shared their life experiences. As they released that they are in the same page, tolerance to sure within them. Students were given computers by a business man to document their journals using ICT. Miss Gruwell made play a game where she that everyone in the class lost his or her friend or relatives. As she saw this, she was forced to sacrifice her personal life and concentrated on her students. In some of the scenes she was even angry to Andre when he was ailing behind with his work as she said “You know what this is? This is a Fuck You to me and everyone in this class. I don’t want excuses. I know what you’re up against. We’re all of us up against something. So you better make up your mind, because until you have the balls to look me straight in the eye and tell me this is all you deserve, I am not letting you fail. Even if that means coming to your house every night until you finish the work. I see who you are. Do you understand me? I can see you. And you are not failing.”(Freedom Writers, 2007) Some of the students in class had no place to go, so they stayed late in class to do their school work.

The English teacher made them change their sitting arrangement and mix with each other. Students read one of Anne frank who was one of the Holocaust survivors. Miss Gruwell motivated them so much that they started to raise funds together so that Miss Miep Gies can visit them. Miss Miep Gies had also read their stories. They all felt special. She inspired them by telling her story to them one of them being Marcus who said “I’ve never had a hero before. But you are my hero.”(Freedom Writers, 2007)
Miss Gruwell took them for a trip to visit the Museum to tour around. They leant about other people and how they survived and died. After that she took them to the same restaurant she was working to as part time to have dinner with the holocaust survivors who told them all their stories. They were all happy for their teacher because she made them feel special and loved at the same time. This had a great impact in them. She even made a toast of change for them. Miss Erin taught them not to judge each other on the basis of race and made them feel together and to face all challenges of life. At the end all her students changed completely and they graduated.
Respect is a mutual care and emotions safety, a state in which everyone counts and everyone counts upon everyone else. In the movie we see students disrespecting Miss Gruwell. They made noise in her presence in class; they used vulgar language which they should not say in class. When someone respects others they from a mutual and symmetrical relation which was not there in Miss Erin Class only extreme dislike. If someone shows respect they are able to share ideas, feelings and respect it`s self. Some people can insult other regardless of their age.

Teacher will be able to cooperate with their students smoothly creating a strong bond with each other. Also it will increase coordination and running of the class easily.
