Our First game.
One of our most anticipated games of the season ,was against our sworn rivals Eleanor Roosevelt soccer team.Rosevelt already coming into the game with an edge after wining 6 of all their pre-season games while we manage to win three of out of three preseason games. The game was being hosted by Roosevelt and since we were the away team we wore our yellow jerseys with blue socks, while they wore their traditional white jerseys with white socks. Although it was 4:00pm in the afternoon there was still bright outside, weather was clear temperature mid 70’s. Fans had begun filling up the seats on the bleachers which were empty at that point.
Our captain whom wore a red armband around his arm indicating is role in the team, walked vibrantly to the referee indicating what side we were wanted and the referee quickly told him in reply how many seconds we had left to get ready. Our Hispanic coach Mr. Hernandez with a thick accent announced the starting eleven, which left me on the bench as backup.
The referee blew his whistle indicating kickoff and already the host Roosevelt applied the heavy pressure by taking a vicious shot 25 yards away from goal, but only ended up floating over the bar. Already 10 minutes Roosevelt were letting their intention known when their left back found room to break down the right and ventured into the penalty box unleashing a shot with a defender not side site fortunately the shot went wide. Half an our into the game Roosevelt were obviously the more dangerous side with their fans whom seemed to cheer on loudly as if it was the source to Roosevelt teams forceful play play with each possession they got louder cheering, go Roosevelt go while booing with with each possession we had on the ball.

Our coach, sensing confusion kept yelling “watch your man”. Roosevelt seeing our weakness kept applying pressure by taking shots from all areas on the pitch .Just before halftime our forwards Roosevelt defender was caught in possession by our forward Dwayne but took to long to shoot and allowed the defender to block his eventual shot. The first half came to a close as the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of proceedings in the first half. I would have to admit the referee was a bit lineit on us for allowing some of our player to go unbooked after a few reckless tackles.
During the half time many of the starters on the bitch walked quickly towards their bags and grabbed bottle water to wash the sweat and quench their hunger for thirst which they held up for 45 minutes of the game. We the bench players stood up quietly and waited for the criticism the team was about to receive from our coach. First our coached yelled out his frustration of how terrible and disastrous we were and then went on to make a few changes as he called me to replace the striker for second half. Our captain went on to give his words of encouragement before proceedings of the second half.
Already in the second half we had decided to take the game to Roosevelt .We signal our first warning when on the 53minute I attempted a shot on goal but was disgusted after watching the ball drag well wide away from goal and out of play ,I then went my right hand on top of my head to signal my disappoint towards the shot. Roosevelt quickly replied with a shot from 30 yards but was thrashed well away from goal. It was well obvious that this second half was going to be very different as know we were both trying to break through each others defense. It was highpoint who came close again to opening the first goal of the game when managed to send in a cross after beating a couple of defenders on the right flank but the cross was hooked right over the top cross bar from our whom Dwayne who tried to head it in. Even the crowd grew silent and Roosevelt teammates grew nervous sensing the pressure we had been mounting towards them.

The deadlock was finally broken on 74 minute with a powerful shot from our Spaniard left back Louis who managed to find the ball on the edge of the box and managed to fire it over 2 defenders and past the goalies fingertips into the back of the net. The crowed was stunned just as much the Roosevelt players were , we on the other end celebrated by high fiving each other clearly the momentum was in our favour. The score line almost became 2-0 when in the 86minutes I as I left the Roosevelt goalie stunned as with a super free kick only to see it come of the crossbar. Some of the fans had already started making their exist as we went on in search of the second goal which we found in the 91 minutes when I managed to tap in a miss hit from of our striker Dwayne.
The referee went on to blow his whistle for the end of the game capping of our first victory of the season and to establish our position in the league we off course congratulated our opponents by shakings their hands and that of our team-mates.
