The experience of design
I have been gathering information and experiences from 2 cities where I lived and thinking about the emergence of a building during 3 years of architecture study. I hope to push my architectural research about architectures in modern society on in the future.
One of the cities studied was the self-forming type, which epitomizes my homeland. This city wanders around Pearl River (Southern China).
Rem Koolhaas, a famous modern architect, expressed fervent interest in Pearl River City. I personally appreciate his love for it and also believe that despite its crude and chaotic exterior, its actual essence is efficient and patternized.
The second city I’d like to mention is the conventional and ever-so-orderly area, such as Beijing, which is determined by its traditional culture and politics. The colonization appeared merely in partial area.
I was wondering the possibility of using the “self-forming” order in the building of the latter city. In one of our bachelor design topic about renovation of old city in Beijing, we did a survey in a courtyard house in Beijing，and compared the data collected from the new-build low housing 200m away. I found that old building area is more suitable for citizens to live public area, the use of community facilities, cost of energy. Besides, in the turbulent old buildings area, the juxtapose and overlap of public area and private area made the locals have more sense of self-determination and belonging。
Last summer I went to one of the world’s most famous historical places, The Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It was the home of the emperors of the last two dynasties in China, the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Forbidden City was built in 1420. It stands in the center of the capital of China, Beijing. It is surrounded by high walls with dragons on each wall. The palace contains over ten thousand ...
In my point of view, as a vivid and healthy city, there must be a flowing chaos, especially in the modern city which is a production of the movements of people, material and information. The application of digital tool give me the great inspiration that architecture should be the true reflection of modern technology.
Which kind of architecture is the most appropriate during this drastically changing era mixed with increasingly complex human behaviors? How future architecture in the use of the latest technology will realize its function in a more accurate fashion? I am longing to look for some places which will provide me with the international and pioneering perspective. Graduate studies will be an important method of freeing me from my current puzzlement.
