The Message of Walle: Stop being Lazy before It’s too Late to Save our Planet
Who would have thought that a cartoon movie like Pixar’s Walle could have so much environmental education incorporated into its plot? In the movie Walle, it explains how recycling is important. Recycling is saving trees, water, electricity, waste and so on. Many people have become so careless about not recycling. The lack of recycling has become such a huge problem, that if we do not fix it, our home here in the Antelope Valley will be destroyed just like in the movie Walle. Our valley still shows some beauty in our clear sky, green grass and fresh air. However things like littering, wasting, and not re-using, and being careless about our city shows that our world will become a dumpster like in the movie Walle.
In this film, Walle is in a world made up from a bunch of trash that he tries to clean up and to make a new city again. This shows that Walle is trying to bring something back to life that is already dead. Here in the Antelope Valley people have become so careless that littering has become a common routine of our everyday life. All over our cities there’s trash. It is as if walking to the nearest trash can is nearly impossible. It has gotten to the point where you find disturbing trash on the floor while walking to class or walking through the park with a young child such as an unwrapped condom. Although, Walle is a robot and clearly has no idea what most things are he also comes across a woman’s bra being a young woman myself I feel that is definitely private, and should not be left out like trash. We are not left alone like Walle is but if we continue with these bad habits more and more people will pick up on them, and just like Walle we will be left in a dumpster and no way to fix it.

Walle was a company made up of robots that was designed by humans to clean up all the trash that they made. But the trash kept getting worse and only one robot survived, and his job became impossible so all the humans left to live in space. Walle rolled around and did all of the cleaning up. Of course when all of the other robots gave out his job was too much to handle. This can happen to us as well here in the Antelope Valley. When it is too late to make a change only a hand full of people will most likely want to help make our environment better. And because a handful of people is not enough we will end up like Walle. If we recycle we do not have to worry about hurting our environment here in the Antelope Valley. simply by putting more recycling bins around public places would be a great help. Recycling is so simple and gives us free money! Now who does not like that? Just by recycling, it gives us the opportunity to re use plastics, cans paper and so much more. We will not be wasting anymore and at the same time we are saving trees, which is also a home to many creatures.
Knowing that so many people are so careless breaks my heart, and it is unfair for the people that do wish to have a healthy environment here in the Antelope Valley. Later on in the movie, it shows how the humans are now living and you notice how careless they are. They also seem like they have forgotten the importance and the true meaning of life. They are missing out on all the beautiful things that matter in life, such as nature and even their kids’ life. It is sad to say but so many grownups are taking part in this terrible action and as role models to us younger adults and kids some of us have taken part in making our Valley look like the place that Walle lived in. It still amazes me that we have even let it get this far. Today there are so many people that do want and have helped keep our home clean and it is still not enough. And since that is not enough, just picture what our city will look like down the road as more people become careless. We will definitely be living in a dumpster like Walle.

Everyday that goes by without making a change puts us at one day closer to the day where our valley will be destroyed. Not very many people have taken the time to walk around our parks, schools or even around our neighborhoods and count how many pieces of trash there is on the floor. To prove my point I went to each of these places and counted only oversized pieces of trash that could be recycled. At a middle school here in the city of Palmdale I found about five plastic juice bottles, over twelve pieces of loose paper and only three bags of empty chips. This is only in the front of the school. At a family park in Lancaster I found two empty bottles of soda, and over twenty food wrappers. Lastly, I took a walk around my neighborhood and found a ridiculous amount of trash. Putting more recycling bins and regular trash bins in public places like these will prevent us from experiencing a lifestyle such as Walle’s.
Walle is a good example of what our world will become if we do not put an end to our abuse that we have caused to our planet. No one wants to live an unhealthy life simply because we are too lazy to make a change. Walle has shown in a fun way that we need to start caring for our world more and take part in recycling. This film has made me realize that we cannot continue the way that we have been. And it has inspired me to make a change in my whole lifestyle to help our community. Take the time to watch the film with friends and family, and hopefully it will have the same effect on you as it had on me. And hopefully it will make you want to join me on a new start to make a change and continue to keep our blue sky, green grass fresh air and a beautiful, healthy lifestyle!
