Human nature has always sought to subdue its fellow beings, using different means and ways. Means wary; war, love, fear, friendship and needs, all have been the tools of human strategies to gain control. But most of the History of human race is the history is the history of brutal violence of innumerous wars fought for the millenniums, resulting in loss of millions of lives, destruction, violence, and creation of wounds that embed in the society and its thinking. The only cure that could be an answer to this negativity produced by war is the emotion of love. Love has always played an important role in redressing and curing the ills and demons of the war. It has not only minimized the by-products of war but has also been a great pillar in the progress of mankind. Whenever the war arrives it brings agony, pain, sense of deprivation, dislocation, social and economic catastrophe, psychological distress, and collective social disorder in the society. These factors are exclusive of whether the war has been won or lost. Things are never joyous after war. After violence, the upliftment of the society heavily depends on the love. Love is the key to obliterating the impact of violence caused by war and its proxies. It works in softening up the pain and loss, it helps in accepting the results and shocks, and creates the capacity of enduring the pain and finally letting go of it. Motivation, encouragement, inspiration and enthusiasm are all the works of love, these factors if combined can build new societies, civilizations and may be the new worlds. One can safely presume that despite the bloodshed and brutality of human wars and violence, the only savior of the human civilization that has managed and directed the course of progress and human acceptance of each other, is love.

Effects and disasters of war:
The nature of war is destruction. It makes no difference what type of war it is, holy war, civil war, patriotic war, or be it the war of independence, all wars cause the damage to the balance of the society and its progress, creating social sense of disparity and deprivation. Today in the modern world we have witnessed the consequences of war becoming far more destructive then found in the entire history of world. Today war can be accounted for causing loss of lives, extremism, terrorism, poverty, ill-literacy, refugeeism, destruction and many other social evils. Horrors of war have widened with the advent of modern weaponry and forces. Entire nations can be wiped with a single atom bomb, as world witnessed and people of japan suffered. The scars of annihilation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki even after over 60 years have not been fully obliterated. This has been our progress in terms of war. On micro level, when we see the effects of war, we come to know that war causes end of peace and creating social insecurity. People are traumatized with the coming of war. Loss of earning, loss of property, loss of progress, and loss of security are one of the few losses occurring in the wake of war for the common people. Morale of the society withers, distrust and desire for survival becomes lone rules. Fear and uncertainty grips the masses, leading in the collective failure of society and giving birth to the notions of loot and plunder, oppression and coercion making the society a jungle. Thus the negativity of war mutilates the whole culture of normal living.

Significance of love in war-torn society:
Love has powerful overtures in the society, which mostly go unnoticed. Love not only helps and motivates but it also inspires the positive actions. If a war-torn society has to rebuild itself quickly, then human bonding can play a very important role in the acceptance of what has befallen and what must be done to redress the problems. Love for fellow beings and their sufferings and love for the cause of restoring the previous prosperity have always been a driving force behind the re-modulation of a society that has received blows of war. If people of violence stricken area are motivated, given good care and inspired rightly, they can recreate themselves again. They can reestablish their lost lives and drive away the harsh actions that disturbed their lives. All that is required for the dilution of effect of violence is simple careful assessment of what went wrong and what must be done to redress it. And to reach that point where one is able to put one’s faculties in order to find solutions, one must be first liberated from the horrors of violence. And that can only be achieved when collectively we inject the in the society emotion of love for oneself and love for life and whatever it has to offer in future. That is where the leadership is very much required. The basic task of the leader is to inject the love for unity and love for a cause and then to build upon those to emotions. Rightly says Shakespeare, “love conquers all”.
References from world history:
Numerous examples of love diluting the violence of war can be found in world history. A few are quoted below:
a. Wars and strategy of Alexander the great:
Alexander the great, one of the greatest conquerors of all time, led many wars and fronts. His strategy of war always considered thouroghly the fate of people and territories conquered. Whenever he would conquer a territory, despite the violence and havoc of war caused, he would engage with the conquered people. He would listen to them and appoint among them their governor under his kingship. He would also empathy with them for their loss and would integrate the won armies with his army. When he conquered Persia he acquired the Persian title of “shahenshah “ , and adopted many Persian customs to his court. He went even further acquiring a Persian wife and encouraging his troops to marry from Persia. These love filled actions of Alexander, despite his violent wars helped him consolidate the great empire.

b. Islamic wars and conquests:
Amnesity of mecca:
In the war of mecca hardly any violence was caused. But the war of mecca culminated the hostility and previous violence of arab people that disturbed their social lives. Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) showed love for human beings, regardless of their faith, and gave general amnesity to the people of mecca and thus developing a great social order that would go on to win the world. In the same way the historic treatment of muhajjir’s of mecca by the people of medina (ansar), heavily demonstrates significance of love. That love redressed muslims so well that they grew stronger and stronger.
Conquest of sindh:
Muhammed bin qasim when conquered sindh, redressed the violence and horror of war showing great love and mercy to the people of sindh. He engaged with them, adhering their problems and not forcing to follow his faith. His empathy and engagement combined with his just rule made sindh a prosperous land, which embraced the religion of islam out of love.
Peace of saladin:
Salah-ud-din ayoubi’s conquest of Jerusalem and peacefully giving exit to the jews and Christians even after fighting a crusade with them can be marked as golden example in the muslim history. He infused in the muslims the love for the cause and then prepared them well for the battle which ended in the victory of scanty muslim force defeating a big Christian army. After conquest he redressed the shocks of the war with peace and progress and hence making Jerusalem center of prosperity.
c. Japan and germany:
The countries of japan and germany were utterly destroyed in the second world war. Two cities of japan were destroyed through atom bombs, where as germany was broken into two states east and west germany. Nevertheless these nations developed themselves again. Both the countries are most impressive economic and military hubs of the world today. They reassembled themselves by infusing the love for their respective countries. And today they are the models for the entire world to follow.

Modern wars: challenges and Goals:
The biggest wars of 20th century were the First World War and the Second World War. These two wars collectively posted 55 million casualties. This is the highest number of casualities in the world so far in its 4.5 million years history. The dawn of 21st century saw the new kind of war emerging on global surface, A hideous and ambiguous war against terrorism. After the soviet failure in the Afghanistan, the then American and Saudi Arabian backed mujhaideen called taliban, rose to lead the Afghanistan and making it the sanctuary for the world terrorists. Then occurred 9/11 and war of Iraq, which redefined the world politics and strategies. America launched the war on terror, backed by entire world, helped by Pakistani soil and leadership. The war still continues without the significant achievement, causing 0.1 million casualties apart from the money and property engaged. The war on terror is running in its 10th year but the fruits of the war are still blurred by continued terror strikes. Today the major challenge the world is facing is how to bring a successful end to the war on terror and how to eliminate militancy from the face of world. These two tasks are proving a very elusive goal for the world and for its peaceful existence. Today the world needs a solution for these wars, terrorism and for the violence caused by the both. The clash of civilization, kind of scenario is shaping up creating a major distrust and divide on the lines of ethnicity and sectarianism. Today the world leadership is still in unyielding position to make any break through on these issues. Think tanks are not coming up with the exact approach to this knotty problem. The force and dialogue both have been consumed without much success.

Case of Pakistan:
The history of Pakistan is the history of political unstability, rivalary with india, proxy war of America with Russia and economic failure. Adding another war, all these factors turn up to be the recipe of the disaster called extremism and terrorism. The dictatorship sown seeds of extremism and fundamentalism have grown in to the mighty oaks of terrorism with plenty of thorns of ethnic and sectarian violence. Today the focus of the entire world is on Pakistan and the world sees it as the most dangerous country on the planet earth, due to its nuclear assets, militancy, ethnic violence, terrorist sanctuaries, sectarian divides, poor economy and ever rising corruption. The violence in the entire country has been multifaceted, suicide bombing, ethnic violence, sectarian violence, army operations, foreign operations, militant operations, political bloodshed and domestic violence are burning the country from Karachi to Khyber. The leadership of the country seems to have no answer, and the people are suffering from sense of insecurity and uncertainty. These conditions of the Pakistan with presence of war on her western borders and rivalry on her eastern borders have caused the morale of the entire nation to sink down to the lowest levels possible.
The answers to this trauma and turbulence is coming from no where, each quarter is busy in protecting themselves and their own interests, while the common people are left at the mercy of violence and insecurity. Souring inflation and fleeing foreign investment have brought the economy in shambles, increasing the rate of poverty and unemployment, producing the social evils of civil violence like kidnapping for ransom, extortion etc. Corruption has run down the entire government structure, where from head of institution to the very tail of institution all are corrupt and making corruption an integrated part. These problems are the major cause of today’s violence and discomfort in our country, and pose serious challenge to our existence.
Solution lies in understanding and love:

The situation seems very grave on the global and country wide scene, but nevertheless our courage and resolve to culminate violence should never wither. Efforts to end violence should come from the love for humanity, love for pluralism, understanding and acceptance of each other. The drive for the cause of establishing a society, where existence of violence could not be found, should be reinforced. The significance of peace and love for the humanity and for the planet we inhabit should be the roots of every policy and tip of every action taken in the global or state wise perspective. A global effort should be put forward for reaching out to the violence stricken areas or countries, and professing the message of love and brotherhood to the people of those areas, along with the concrete steps for the elimination of violence and aggression.
“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.”, in these words Dalai Lama states the eternal truth. Today we cannot foresee the end of violence or even its dilution, without love. Until we are prepared for the whole hearted effort to console and care, comfort and cure, seek to understand and then seek to be understood, we cannot achieve the end to the wars and its negative effects. We have seen through the eyes of time that love has played a pivotal role in progress and pluralism of the human race. It not only overcame violence and aggression but also directed the course of progress and human excellence. It is not impossible goal to achieve, just a good reflection of thought and rationality are sufficient to make us realize the wonders the love has played. Same opinion goes for our country. If we realize the sacrifices we put to get our indepence we will realize, the price of ourland and price of our existence. We must relinquish the ethnicity, sectariansism, factionalism, extremism and stop being sindhi, pashtun, punjabi, baloch or muslim, hindu and christian, we must become Pakistani. And love our country and countrymen. Redress each other’s sorrow and take pledge never to turn to the violent and hostile means. These things will bring the peace, progress and prosperity and pave a better future for our country, for region and for the world.
