Major hunger problems have been unsolved throughout history and will be also faced in the future; it has caused millions of people to die or suffer from the effects of hunger. Everyday about 24,000 people worldwide die directly from hunger or related diseases. There are a variety of reasons which bear upon the problems, but of those reasons there are three main factors, natural, social, and economic. “The war against hunger is truly mankind’s war of liberation,” said U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in a Speech at the World Food Congress. These situations that cause world hunger can’t be changed in a short period of time but the world just have to do what is possible to put an end to hunger.
One of things that human should pay attention to is natural issues. The world produces enough food to feed its entire people, but that food is not distributed equally among the rich and poor or across national boundaries. The reason for this is because that there are huge expenses in packaging, transporting, and distributing that brings the price up, according to library.thinkquest.org. In all of the energy people use on wheat, only one third of the energy is spent on growing and milling and the other two thirds is packaging, transporting and distributing. By doing all of these, the price of flour would be much higher than it was in the fields, but reducing these costs is simple if you can eliminate the transportation. If food is produced closer to where it is needed, costs will be much lower. It is easy for countries that have a great amount of arable land but not for those counties that do not, the weather could be too extreme or the land could be too hard. There could be a lot of reasons for not having arable land, but as the technologies develop, new land is becoming available in the world but until there is enough land and the cost is low there won’t be a hunger free world.

According to my dad, social reasons often take place as a huge part of hunger in some countries. The root of hunger is sometimes not simply that people can’t afford, the root is sometimes tangled with their beliefs and cultures which prevent progress. In India and Bangladesh womens’ sole job for centuries has been taking care of their family, and they never takes any rule in their community, which always depends on the men to do things. Social responsibility holds women responsible for all the key actions required to end hunger: family nutrition, health, education, food production, family income and more. The cultures themselves prevent women from carrying out these responsibilities, and this situation holds hunger in place. It is not like the women don’t want to have a voice in the world but it had been set by their ancestors for over 3000 years. Social changes are among the most important changes that must be made to establish a hunger free world.
One of the biggest problems that are causing starvation in some poor countries is debt. Some of the world’s poorest countries owe hundreds of billions of dollars in debt to many well developed countries, this limit the ability of the government to spend money to reduce starvation because the government instead spends money repaying other governments. Fifty two of the world’s poorest countries (of which 37 are in Africa) owe a total of $376 billion in debt. The repayments for this huge amount of money take up a very large part of each country’s income, leaving them with little left to help them and solve their hunger problems according to my father. Many are calling for the developed countries to cancel their debt, which would mean that the less developed countries would not have to repay it. By canceling their debt, it will help us to take a big step to a hunger free world.

Throughout the history of the world, mankind has thought of tons of ideas that they think will put a stop to hunger, but in my mother and my opinion, education might be the key solution to starvation. According to library.thinkquest.org a Chinese poem written is 500 BC reads:
If you are thinking a year ahead, sow seed
If you are thinking ten years ahead, plant a tree
If you are thinking one hundred years ahead, educate the people
By sowing a see once, you will harvest once
By planting a tree, you will harvest tenfold
By educating the people, you will harvest one hundredfold
When people understand the reasons why there is hunger in their country, and the solutions that can help it, the problem can be solved much easier and quicker. Many of the people living in countries where chronic persistent hunger is occurring want to help to sort out their problem. Education of the people allows them to focus their time and energy on projects more efficiently, and will help them to reach success.
By writing this essay on world hunger I have uncovered a variety of interesting facts and ideas, and have made improvement at knowledge of the hunger in general. Knowing what it is like in some poor countries it made me feel I’m lucky to be as I am.
