“Advertising makes us buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have.” I agree with this statement to a point. Advertisements have both pros and cons. For the pros advertising makes it possible for businesses to get people to know them. It’s also a way for different organizations to let there opinions out. This is especially in politics were pressure groups have a large influence in important decisions. The government also uses them for various reasons; surgeons generals warnings, new cures for deceases, and information on criminals or missing persons. The cons of advertisement are that the companies with more money advertise more which means that they create a monopoly that makes it harder for small companies to get noticed. Companies can also use advertisements to trick you in to buying thing. So I wish in the essay to compare the pros and cons and find out ” would we be better of with or without advertisements.
Without advertisements there would be a lot of thing that you wouldn’t know about. Whenever a new product comes out it always advertised very heavily. The fact that it’s advertised so heavily means that there’s nobody that doesn’t know about it. Witch could be a bad thing or a good thing. On the good part is that if it is something that interests you, or that you need you know about . If that advertisement wasn’t there you might not ever know about it. On the bad part if it’s something you don’t need you might end up walking through a store and buying it any way. In my person opinion it all depends on the person.

Most brand name companies spend millions on commercials, billboards, fancy boxes, lights and publicity stunts so that you will buy there product. Were do they get there money from? They get all that extra money by jacking up the prices and saying that they have better things in there product then everybody else. If you were to actually look at the back and understand it you would most likely see that most of the time they have the same things in them. Since the advertisements are driving this good image into your head you automatically assume that it a better product when there’s really no difference.
Then there are different organizations that would like there opinion heard. An example of these type organizations is the coalition for a tobacco free America. This coalition with donations does very drastic things to tell what they call the truth about tobacco. I feel as though this is a good thing. It raises people’s awareness about different situations happening around the world. The problem is that there aren’t really any rules governing what can be said on television besides censors so what ever said in a commercial does not necessarily mean that it’s true.
The government also uses it for several politic reasons. Politicians use commercial billboards and flies to tell everyone their campaigns because if not then how would people be able to accurately vote for their people in office. They wouldn’t even know the persons name. They also use advertisements to help find missing persons and even criminals. The government also limits the power of advertisement they even recently made it illegal to send subliminal messages in advertisement. The even make large monopolized companies break up into smaller ones. My opinion is ” advertising is good as long as they can’t do it.”
