On the Outlook for Colleges In only two short years Arcadia’s class of 2004 will be leaving the nest and moving on to bigger and better things. Many of us are busy with the research of colleges that go heavy on the education but easy on the pocketbook. There are so many colleges out there that make a person want to attend just because of the party life they provide. Sure everybody is ready to go to one of the wild and crazy college parties that we ” ve all seen on television, but is that really what it’s all about? We need to look at the important issues such as the degrees the college offers. George Mason University, Washington and Lee University, and Hawaii Pacific University are three colleges that compare and contrast greatly in the areas of tuition, financial aid, location, and much, much more.
George Mason University is a public college located in Fairfax, Virginia. Fairfax is a fairly urban-type area but the school is mostly secluded by woods. There are many things to do that make student life more enjoyable. With campuses in Arlington and Prince William counties, GMU students have the luxury to both urban and rural areas.
To the west the Blue Ridge Mountains provide camping, fishing, and hiking, and to the east, Washington D. C. provides shops, theaters, and much, much more. According to Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges 88% of all undergraduates are from Virginia. Students come from 49 states, 101 foreign countries, and Canada. 95% are from public schools.

The student life is made easy with on-campus housing. You are allowed to have a car on campus.
Access to libraries and other learning facilities is a big plus to living so close to the school.
