Ancient Greece. Their contributions to our world.
Might I start this essay by making sure that we all know that without Ancient Greece, we would not have Greek Salad. That I see, is Ancient Greece’s most important, and most evident contribution to the modern world. If you want to muddle in the insignificant ways that Greece has influenced modern life, fine, lets go. Ancient Greece has created those lovely pillars mounted on the outside of banks, and upper middle class houses all over America. Without ancient Greece, surely those banks would have to find something else to support their roofs. The pillars invented by the Greeks, has spread throughout the world, and possibly the underworld, as they are sometimes portrayed as holding up the Gates to Hell. The architecture of the Greeks is also important in our “modern” world. The Greek Architecture has survived the years not by being as strong as the Pyramids, but by being repeated, built, copied, and reconstructed all over. Probably the only Greek invention that the average Joe Six Pack remembers, are the Olympics. They stun our world every four years, as athletes from widespread continents show up to strut their stuff. The Olympics bridged the Television Gap, in 1936, when the Hitler Nation of Germany showed the events on the first television signal to break our atmosphere.
As we can see, the Greeks had some pretty big “Kahonas” to accomplish all of this with only a few hundred thousand in their population. The Great Minds of Greece were an accomplishment from Greece. Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, and Archimedes influenced our world so much that we take it for granted. Socrates was the greatest mind ever. He was a philosopher, a mathematician, and a martyr. Without Socrates, we wouldn’t have people like Alex Mitvik, who stand up for their beliefs, and even die for them. Socrates was killed by poison when he would not pledge allegiance to the Gods of Athens. Plato was another of the great minds, skilled, and way ahead of his time, he didn’t die for his findings though, like Socrates. Aristotle and Archimedes had great strides in the scientific community. One of the greatest products of the Greek idea factory was the Republican government, and the democratic government.
The Essay on Ancient Civilizations And The Greek World Matrix
Complete the matrix by entering cultural, political, and economic developments that had lasting effects or that are significant of each civilization. The table includes one example. Civilization Cultural Developments Political Developments Economic Developments Mesopotamian Developed the beginnings of astronomy and mathematics Believed in many gods not just one. Emergence of Kings, exercised ...
A subject I haven’t touched upon is the inventions themselves. The cork screw water pump, the lever, and of course, the double gulp wineglass. We all know how much those Greeks wanted to drink. If the lever hadn’t been invented, then we wouldn’t have those lovely seesaws in our modern parks, and we wouldn’t have fantastic rides at Busch Gardens. The screw water pump helps irrigate “crops” all over Mexico, and Jamaica. Without the screw water pump, what would the people in Amsterdam do? Without the Greeks, and their 64 ounce wine glasses, I feel that 7-11 would go out of business. They need that money from all night truck drivers bloating their bladders with Coke. I think I will credit the Greeks to the formation of Alcoholics, here, and overseas.
The Greeks with all of their great thinking, and extreme accomplishments, didn’t know when to quit though. If they knew when to say when during the all night drunken barn dances, maybe they would still be alive and thriving today. The Greeks also had a large impact on the production of statues. As you can see in the movies we watch in class, the Greeks could perform such feats as to bend ivory. How they did this, we may never know. The statue of Athena in Athens, stood 36 feet tall, and must have taken a genius even in our time to create.
The Essay on Eighth Point Screw Water Fastened
The agriculture of Hellensitic Italy was transformed not only by the introduction of a large number of technical innovations, but also by a profound structural change. The last 2 centuries BC witnessed decisive steps towards the establishment of large scale estates, latifundia, which were to play an important role in the course of the empire. Even though the cultivation units remained relatively ...
I would like to conclude this applauding of the Greeks by saying that they are the most advanced civilization in all time. They didn’t have lasers, or spaceships, or even cars. But, they created statues, inventions, and people that will mark history forever. The minds of Greece must have been so bored with the applications they could get their hands on. If only we could bring back Socrates, or Aristotle to the year 2000. Wouldn’t they be astounded that we still teach our children about them, hundreds of years after they died?
