Art Analysis Paper The first painting analyzed was North Country Idyll by Arthur Bowen Davis. The focal point was the white naked woman. The white was used to bring her out and focus on the four actual colored males surrounding her. The woman appears to be blowing a kiss. There is use of stumato along with atmospheric perspective. There is excellent use of color for the setting.
It is almost a life like painting. This painting has smooth brush strokes. The sailing ship is the focal point because of the bright blue with extravagant large sails. The painting is a dry textured flat paint. The painting is evenly balanced. When I look at this painting, it reminds me of settlers coming to a new world that is be founded by its beauty.
It seems as if they swam from the ship. The second painting was by George W. Bellows and named Shoghead. This painting brought a sense of ease and relaxation. I can picture myself on the top of the mountain listening to the waves crash on the sides. The open countryside topped by the clouds give the painting a sense of realism.
The extremely bright blue water stands out the most, though the focal point is not clear. There is not an excessive use of paint. It is as if Bellows caked it on his brush and made quick short strokes. The use of such dark colors on the hill is a mystery. The terrain has a roughness that makes the painting come to life. The artist did a great job of showing the depth.
If I had to guess, he was influenced by Picasso’s work because of the extensive use of thick point. The third painting was by Julian Story and it was called American Born in England. It was a battle painting. The black prince stands out as the focal point. It is the center of the painting and brings notice to the way the other knights are dressed. The Black Knight (the Prince of Wales) stands overlooking King John, who is blind.
The Term Paper on Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe Paintings
Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa is one of the most well-known paintings in the world. Show anyone from a 60 year old man to a 10 year old girl a picture of the painting and, most likely, they will be able to name the painting as well as the painter. While some say that DaVinci’s painting is the most famous of all created, many of Andy Warhol’s paintings are also easily recognizable. Almost everyone ...
King John wanted to be in the battle for his country. The background (depth) is shown in the distance by atmospheric perspective. There is a sense of honor in the knight for the king. There is a great use of color. The painting is very life like. The picture seems to come to life, making me feel as if I were part of the painting! The fourth painting was by Jozef Brandt and it was called Ein Getecht (A Battle).
This one was also of a battle scene. The action of this painting is also life like. The battlefield seems to be in a small village. It is covered with horses and soldiers. The lonely oak tree tells so much about the painting. It shows that the time of the year is winter.
The village seems to have been taken by one group as if hide out or living quarters. The other groups of soldiers on the right are dominating in greater number and are overpowering the soldiers. The battle uniforms are very elaborate. The background is hazy and unclear because of the gun smoke. Stumato is evident in the paper. It shows in the center and in the sides of the painting. The work is very detailed which seems surprising because of the amount of characters in the painting.
I really enjoyed this project. Shoot, I really enjoyed this art appreciation class. It really opened my eyes to the art world. There is so much more to art than I ever imagined. The Telfair museum was something else, from the moment I walked in, the four painting I was going to analyze, jumped out to me. The first two paintings were in the basement, the North Country Idyll and the Shaghead.
I knew from the moment I walked in they both jumped out to me, the woman in the center of the painting called out to me. I knew that I had to analyze this. There was something about it. The same about Shaghead, the open countryside and the water, I could imagine myself sitting on the top of the hill and the waves breaking on the rocks and splashing in my face, it was such a relaxing painting to me. When I was done with these two paintings I was ready for something with a little action, I went up stairs and as soon as I walked in, I found the painting I had t do, the Black Prince at Crecy. There was a lot of honor in this painting.

The way the Prince of Wales looked at a fallen King John. That showed me great respect in battle. That is why I was inspired to work this painting. The final painting I analyzed was Ein Gefecht (A Battle).
Yet another battle scene but different in its own way. It had a completely different meaning of battle that the Black Prince. The honor and dignity in battle was not there, it was just pure blood shed.
The attacking force had the upper hand because they out manned the opposing force. Still, I wonder what the purpose of the only tree in the middle of the battle scene. Could it have been mother nature standing trough all of the world’s hard times, it is hard to say, excellent painting though. Like I mentioned, I really enjoyed this project, it opened my eyes to the whole art world..
