I have observed a little girl who is four years old. She is a beautiful child who has big blue eyes and a smile that warms any heart. However she has a saddness also that will rip your heart out. Jade, not real name, lives with her faather and younger brother. Her mommy has decided not to live with them. According to her father her mommy has left for the third time in a year. This time he says she won’t be coming back.
She would rather party than to be a mommy or wife. Jade atches as the other childrens mommies come in and her face falls as she watches them. She tries hard not to show how hurt she is but when she sees you watching her the saddness is in her eyes and she turns away as not to allow you to see into her soul. Jade is a wonderful child and full of energy. She has befriended a little girl, Tiffany. She acts as if she is Tiffany’s mommy. She is very over protective of Tiffany.
However Tiffany seems not to mind and plays really well with Jade. I feel that Jade needs some counceling with grief control, for she is grieveing the fact that her mommy is no longer in her immediate family. She sees her every other week end and sometimes during the week. Jade hasn’t been the same since her mommy has left the family. She used to be very out going and always full of questions and answers. Now she is more reserved and sits back as other children ask the questions. She just seems to be lost.
I have talked with her father and he agrees that Jade may need some counceling. He has made an appointment for her at the local Developmetnal Evaluation Center for children. I plan to be there for her in the class room as much as possible to show her she has a saafe and secure place to be.
