Despite all the positive things that breastfeeding brings, it also has some significant drawbacks for many American moms. Living in a quite feministic society, Americans do not usually give up their jobs during pregnancy and even after the baby is born. Women prefer to stay financially stable and independent and do not want to loose the income they are used to. That is why many of them cannot breastfeed for more than several months. A small baby needs to be fed every 2-4 hours, which is impossible to do if mom is at work and the baby is at home with a nanny.
Also, many women feel that it is difficult to breastfeed for a long time as the baby needs to be constantly nursed, especially at night. If one has to go to work early in the morning it is more convenient to give the baby a bottle and go to sleep, than to keep the baby near the breast and feed it all night long. Another argument many women give is that they want to keep the shape of their breasts attractive and breastfeeding does change breast shape. Your best friend tells you she is getting ready to put her 2 month old baby in child care. What advise would you give her? Do you think she should stay at home with her child? Why or why not? What type of child care would you recommend? Ideally, it would be best to stay at home with the baby for every mother. Being only two months old, the baby really needs its mother to be around to breast-feed, calm down and just be there any minute of the little persons life. However, if there are circumstances that make a young mother go to work, it is best if her two-month old baby stays at home with a reliable, trust-worthy nanny. A baby will be more comfortable being in its own crib, surrounded by the familiar smells, etc.
