Pro life vs. pro choice; just hearing these words brings to mind such great debates as nature vs. nurture, atheism vs. theism, and Splenda vs. sugar. My personal persuasion is that of pro choice. I believe that when the argument is presented, if one relies on facts and formal logic then the only choice is to see that pro-choice is the right choice. In this day and age, where science and technology rule our lives and we have the choice to do practically anything we want with our bodies; it seems strange to me that something as inconsequential as abortion, and a woman’s right to make choices about her own body can be put into question.
A lot of statements made by pro-life advocates are sometimes hypocritical or not made of one-hundred percent true fact. Also, people fail to mention the variable of fathers. If a father may leave or is absent, is it the right choice to bring a child into this world? People who advocate pro-life don’t realize the facts about abortion and do not delve any deeper than if it is a baby or not when there really are many factors that are involved. Let’s get into the science of the matter.
Science tells us that until the third trimester, babies aren’t even technically human. They are just a mass of cells, growing and dividing; eventually becoming a human being. Even supposing that aborting a baby would be taking someone’s life, the life and well being of the mother is already established. In this sense, the mother’s life is “worth” more than the baby’s. If a woman was the victim of rape or another kind of unplanned pregnancy it is the moral responsibility of the mother to abort it.
The Term Paper on Mccormack 1992 Abortion Life Pro
During the past century abortion has become one of the most debatable subjects of controversy in the Western world. It poses moral, social, and medical dilemmas that involve emotional and legal considerations. It has become one of the most intense and polarizing ethical and philosophical issues. The two defined fields of thought include those who are pro-choice activists and supporters of the pro- ...
By doing this she is saving both of their lives. In essence, by having a baby you can’t afford or can’t/won’t take care of, you are ruining the baby’s life as well as the mother’s and or fathers. This situation doesn’t come out as a victory for any party involved. The mothers become more impoverished and the child has an unhappy and unproductive childhood as well as adulthood; possibly following in the same footsteps of his or her mother.
A second difficulty I have with the issue of pro-life is that most of the people who believe in this are hypocrites. For example, if a baby becomes a human life at conception then why isn’t there a funeral every time a woman has a miscarriage? If a fetus is a human being how come the census doesn’t count them? People say life begins at conception. Well I say life begins when a child is jettisoned out of the womb and welcomed into this world; that is when they truly become a human being.
Just as in the science side of creationism, there are a lot of misconceptions that people spread and other people buy into. For instance, many pro-lifers will lead you to believe that an abortion is cruel and extremely inhumane to the baby, when in reality; the process is actually very humane and causes no pain or suffering. You can spend so much time arguing when people become people and whether the morality is right or wrong that most people forget the father’s side of abortion; the dark side of the moon if you will.
If you consider the economical, physical and psychological costs of abortion, it is nothing compared to the consequences that could hurt the future of the mother, especially if the father is not willing to participate, and take a part. Abortion could cost around five-hundred dollars, but one must consider the side-effects and possible physical and mental complications that may create a far more costly environment. For a poor family, five-hundred dollars may seem like a lot but considering the future payments you may have to make; it could be the best five-hundred dollars you’ve ever spent.
The Essay on Positive environments for children and young people
Positive environment A positive environment is one that supports all aspects of the child’s development; staff members/carers can provide the children different ways to extend their developments. By doing activities and guiding the children through their learning, this creates a positive environment for them. Example: Reading and writing activities will help the child or young person’s cognitive ...
Sometimes, in pregnant mothers who have poor living conditions, such as a ghetto or those who have a low income, they may be barely supporting themselves and not be able to pay for a baby. The father’s responsibility is to take care of the baby and many times in these conditions, the father is the one who has to make the money, or the father isn’t there at all. Sometimes fathers will do this multiple times. How is a father who didn’t take responsibility for an unwanted child in his past, possibly be expected to properly raise a child to become responsible; this only continues the vicious circle.
Abortion isn’t just a matter of morality but one of responsibility. There are multiple factors associated with having a child and if you cannot meet this criterion then abortion may be the best choice for you. Sure, there are things like adoption, but as stated before, seeing a baby throughout the whole pregnancy may be too much of a hindrance for the mother. By aborting a child you may be saving not only the mother’s life but the child’s life. A life of poverty and misery.
