This paper will compare burglary crime statistics between two cities for the years 2005 and 2012 using the Federal Bureau of Investigation database the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. Although both cities had an increase in population, both had a decrease in burglaries reported to law enforcement agencies. Most would believe that the increase in population would invite more criminal activity to these cities.

This student chose these two cities because this student grew up in Reno, Nevada, and now resides in Sparks, Nevada. In 2005, there was an influx of people from different regions (mostly California) that relocated to the Reno-Sparks area for construction jobs. However, in 2008 our housing market took a hit, much like most of the United States. This student believes that while the new homes brought in families, but the lack of construction work caused most of the workers to leave the area. Also, during this time period there was a large hiring of police officers in both cities.
Therefore, this student believes that the loss of construction jobs, which cause individuals that were here for the money and increase of police presence caused the decrease in burglaries. Conclusion The use of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s UCR is a beneficial tool available to the public and other law enforcement agencies. The UCR can help law enforcement agencies better track and attack criminal activity within their city and state. The UCR can also help individuals with their discussion to relocate to a new city.
