It’s so thrilling to read about another novel made by James Patterson, an interesting story entitled “Four Blind Mice”. In this novel, I am amazed by the characteristic of one of the main character, Alex cross. In this essay, I will mainly tackle about the personality of Cross in which he deeply shows courage, obsession and humility in his mission in solving a brutal murder case.
Cross is resigning from the Washington Police until it was disrupted by a case which involves his long time friend, John Sampson, whose friend, Cooper, has been framed for murder.
Alex Cross shows his courage when he fearlessly tries to discover who the real suspect is. When Cross and Sampson finally heard the story of Cooper, and tell them that he is innocent as he says “I don’t have an enemy in the world” (Patterson 25), Cross somehow believes that that the suspect is innocent until he discovered in the end that the witnesses are really framed to cover up the crime by military authorities.
Alex cross as what the author describes him, as a homicide detective who wants to pursue a career in FBI shows his character of being an obsessive person. With his love of work, he wanted to prove that after staying as a D.C police over time, as Sampson says “You talked about leaving the police department; maybe you will. But you like the hunt, Alex” (154), Alex can still continue to hunt using his experience as a psychologist.
His humbleness was shown when he imagined about his family which he always leaves at home whenever he had his professional obligation. It is conflicting as his work needs him anytime like his children and grandmother do. Choosing to be with FBI, he has more time to stay at home to take care of Nana Mama, his grandmother and children’s caregiver, and spend quality time with his children as well.

As the story ends, I am overwhelmed with the characteristics showed by Alex Cross, and with his might and will to help a friend, pursue his career, and continue his humility, he will surely make a good role as an FBI agent who will overcome insurmountable barriers.
