Formal English Vs. Modern English
(Persuasive Speech)
Modern English has become very grammatically incorrect, what I would call ugly, compared to formal English. Nowadays, people use too much slang when speaking or writing casually; sometimes people will even see it in formal letters, speeches or essays, especially from teens. Is there anyone who does not find it exasperating when listening to someone speak improperly or reading something with too many grammatical errors?
My fellow teenagers, I know writing with slang is a lot shorter and easier to follow when it comes to assignments, but if you think about it, by taking the easy way out you’re just lower your own grade. Instead, you could be just taking a little bit more time and effort into your grammar and that will eliminate those little error problems. Doing this will save you a couple points on your grade. Considering it only took you a little bit more of your time and resulting in a better grade, would you not find that more satisfying to yourself?
Proper language is very important factor in life, and I promise you that learning proper English now is going to make your life so much better in the long run. Don’t even bother applying for it because there’s probably someone out there that knows better communication skills than you do.
The Essay on Contributions To America English People Africans
Contributions to America Early American society was comprised of many different elements. The biggest contributions to the society was the American Indians, Africans, and, of course, the English, the biggest of the three. Their relationship together was far different than what we have today. You wouldn't just see some African and view him as just another American. It also didn't have a triangular ...
During an interview, you want to talk to the interviewer with some good sense of communication. You want to show that person that you have a way with words. You want them to know that you are an intelligent person and you’re determined to get that job. (Repetition/Parallelism)
Also, when someone asks your opinion on an important subject, you want to speak with formal English. Using proper English can show that you mean it and that you are an intelligent person. Sometimes it will even show them that you are a little bit intimidating. If they hear you speak properly, they’re going to want to keep listening to you because it will seem like you do know what you’re talking about. Otherwise without proper speaking, they will have no interest and they’ll ask themselves ‘why should I bother listen if I can’t even understand what you’re trying to tell me?’. (Pathos) You don’t want someone ignoring your opinion now do you?
As our generation grows up, if we are still speaking and writing the way we do now, our ch
ildren and future generations will also be learning our horrible English grammar. This will happen because we will grow up to be the teachers of the future. We do not want to teach them incorrectly, do we? (Rhetorical Question).
As a major impact on their lives, we are going to be around them very much; they will look up to us and we will influence them. They will hear us speaking, and they will follow the way we do it as well.
We live in a time where technology is taking over our world. A lot of the time, you don’t need a dictionary or any reference; the computer can just do it for us. For example, when your typing your essay on the computer, you type what you think, but you don’t ever notice your mistakes because the computer corrects it for you without even informing you. You’re basically practicing bad grammar without even knowing it.
A way to become better at writing grammatically is through text messaging. People in this time of technology use text or emailing most of the time to communicate with each other. While you’re at it, you might as well practice writing correctly through your messages. It will show the receiver of the message that you are intelligent. The receiver will also appreciate it as well because it will be a lot more understandable to him/her.
The Essay on Writing Life
Writing Life The book we had to read by Annie Dillard, The Writing Life, talks about a woman who has gone though various times in her life when she would be inspired by something, and she would write it down. This book wasn’t really appealing to me. I thought that Annie was going to explain how she went about writing, and what were her struggles. Instead, she starts out telling the read how to ...
One other way of practicing grammar is through books. Reading books can really help you with your way of speaking and writing proper English. You can get that job you have always wanted, you will let the people around you know that you are intelligent and understandable and you will also let your voice be heard. After all your practice of grammar throughout your life, why not pass it on to your future generations. Let them know how important it is. Teach them the way that you were taught. Show the future how it positively impacted your life.
