“It’s Hip To Be Square” by N’gai Croal is on Nintendo’s Game Cube. The Game Cube, a console gaming system by Nintendo, will reach the United States in 2001. The Cube is a 128-bit gaming system, similar to the Sega Dreamcast and Sony’s Playstation 2. The system is able to be connected to the new Game Boy Advance, the successor of Gameboy. The Game Boy Advance is 17 times faster, its LCD screen can handle 32,000 colors. Also, it boasts a 50 percent larger viewing area, and is able to play games that have already come out. There are new games for the Game Cube, such as Star Wars X Fighter, Mario, and Pokemon. The controller for the Game Cube has been completely redesigned, in comparison to the Nintendo 64 controllers.
The main goal of Nintendo, right now, is to regain control of the gaming industry. Nintendo has now learned the basics of making advanced games, and is now switching to cd-rom discs, which should bring costs down for third-party developers. The new games will be made on a smaller, three-inch disc that is incompatible with regular DVDs, which will help guard against piracy. Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Zelda and Mario, said, “The technology behind the Game Cube should unlock new ideas from game designers. The Game Cube will be released on the same time of Microsoft’s X Box, which will show us if Nintendo gains control over the gaming industry again.
