The Essay on Tuckman theory and difference between group and team
The number of stages a group has to run through may vary from different groups but according to Tuckman (1965), there are 4 stages in group development. In stage one, which is forming, each and every group members are curious about each and every of them. Group members will attempt to determine roles such as leadership among them and are not likely to illustrate strong personal opinions and views ...
A moderate motivation level is one that is environmentally induced with personal negative motivators. Some of the environmental factors with a role in the author’s lack of motivation toward the group comes from the limited interaction and influence from team members. Some of this could be perceived as negative attitude, poor organization, and a lack of communication with the team. While these factors may appear as minor to some, these are factors that have a high impact on me as these factors have some control on my actions and responses within the team. Over time the
author’s reaction and response to these factors will become either a lack of concern about assignments and team members or the author’s limited dedication to the team goals. Growth through Knowledge
With the author’s understanding of the factors that control the teams interaction and dedication to achieve the team goals is a valuable tool for the team to progress. Using this assessment, the author has been able to identify things that give me motivation or cause a lack of motivation. Thus the author can use the results of the inventory to better prepare himself and prepare myself for roadblocks that occur. With better knowledge as to what my motivators are allows me to consider both extrinsic and intrinsic motivators that I can use to improve my motivation level. With my improved understanding and acknowledgement that both extrinsic and intrinsic factors can play a role in my personal and the teams group success can help balance the teams potential and improve team motivation to achieve set goals. Development of Work Ethic
With improved awareness of factors that can alter or diminish the author’s motivation provides me the information that can be used to improve my dedication, interaction, and motivation within the team. As an example the author will use procrastination. In order to alleviate the effects of procrastination it is important to set deadlines to ensure that all team members submit their assignments on time. In the case of some team members missing the deadline may create an inconvenience, however in regard to my daily schedule does not allow much flexibility thus a greater problem. Another factor to look at as an example is miscommunication. When team members fail to understand what his or her role is, the team will lose motivation because of doubt. When a team has established regular communication this prevents problems that occur to a low level and provide the team response time for these problems.

All team members are aware that life is unpredictable and things happen at a least favorable moment, a plan of action would be for the team to require team members to ensure the organizing and understanding of assignments and deadlines are agreed upon, which allows team members to finish assigned parts on time. Performing these steps allows the team to have adequate time for any issues that come up and give the team time to communicate with other team members, as needed. A plan of action that has been well thought out and prepared will reduce these stressors and provide for intrinsic motivation, to be used actively by the team and the fear of failure or disappointment amongst the team members, will be diminished. Motivation is the Key
In order to improve my motivational level, I need to remain flexible and willing to change. I need to understand that others will not possess the same work ethic or motivators as I do, and the ability to communicate issues or desires that can impact the team may allow me to remain receptive to circumstances and maintain cooperation with the team members. My personal motivation can be improved or even established through the use of extrinsic motivators, such as: a fear of failing, expectation of causing disappointment by team members, a loss of respect within the team, and a drop in my class grade. I am hard on myself when it comes to my career and education, and since I have an extrinsic motivation for good grades failure is not an option for me and I will not give up. To know that I have given my best effort to each assignment and that the team has produced a quality product is important to me on a personal level.

Success gives me a rush that allows me to know that my time and efforts was not used in vain and that my effort was part of a successful team experience. Some incentives that I would consider using to motivate a team is input on assignments, volunteering for roles within the team, suggestions on how to schedule deadlines, communication methods and standards, and acknowledgement of team communication. Using different motivational styles will increase the chances of finding the motivators that will fulfill the needs of each team member. Since each team member has different motivators, the team must develop motivators as a group that will provide the influence needed by every team member to give his or her best effort on assignments. Conclusion
By taking the time to evaluate a team’s motivation level will provide every team member and the team leader an idea of the factors that could eventually be a potential obstacle and which motivators may be needed to ensure the success of the group. The team needs to ensure that each member is participating to the best of their ability, and by taking a motivational inventory can help each team member to discover potential problems and give the team a chance to setup intrinsic motivators to increase the team’s morale and productivity. Knowledge gained by the evaluation and discovery of each team members extrinsic and intrinsic motivators can provide a way for a team member’s growth and provide insight that can be used by the team to develop motivators and work ethic, factors that can strengthen the team.
When team members are concerned with what other team member’s think or will feel about them if a failure occur is an example of extrinsic motivators. If a team member feels disappointment for not giving total effort and dedication toward team goals and success is an intrinsic motivators. Whatever type of motivator is used to increase work quality or quantity by a team. The metric that will be used is whether the team accomplished the goals of the team and completed the assignments and the work produced is high quality work.
