How Is It Possible Then That Evolution Can Lead To The Appearance Of Such Complex Species As The Homo Sapiens? Children at the age of two and a half years solve social problems much better than the apes do, however, in solving physical problems chimpanzees and orang-outangs perform just as good. This actually proves the cultural intelligence hypothesis, according to which outstanding intellectual abilities developed because of the social life-style and under the requirements of complex and flexible social organization. Presumably, intellectual abilities of our ancestors have been developing unevenly: first they developed their social-orientation skills and only after that – all the other ones. Why did Homo sapiens become the most intelligent group out of all the species? According to one hypothesis, it is because people are not just social creatures, they are ultra social. People alone are able to form diverse groups, which differ in their traditions, behavior norms, methods of obtaining food, systems of inter-group relations, family organization, etc. In order to function effectively in a complicated and ever-changing socio-cultural environment, Homo sapiens had to develop special intellectual abilities. They had to learn how to communicate effectively, how to understand not only the actions, but also the thoughts of their fellow-tribesmen (theory of mind).
The question is, however, how Homo sapiens developed these skills: did they just become more intelligent (bigger brain, more memory, faster learning, faster thinking, etc.) or did humans concentrate on social abilities, whilst all the other abilities came along afterwards. It seems that humans became so complex and intelligent not because they had a bigger brain and more memory, but because they developed as social beings more than any other kind on Earth.
