“We cant let the worlds worst leaders blackmail, threaten and hold freedom loving nations hostage with the worlds worst weapons.” This was quoted from George Bush in late 2002. But this statement could be equally applied to the USA’s foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East. This essay will discuss on three fronts which the US displays a double standard in her foreign policy. These are the differences in policy over the occupation of Kuwait compared to that of Palestine, how the US enforces UN resolution with regards to Iraq and not Israel, and its support for military regimes like Pakistan when the US is a key defender of democracy. In 1991 when Kuwait was occupied by Iraqi forces, the US pursued a war in which many died. They liberated Kuwait and helped the country rebuild.
But in to this day, the US has done nothing to liberate Palestine from the Israeli occupation. Instead, the US has backed the Israeli occupation since the beginning. Some people say this is due to the fact that the US and Israel were allies before the occupation. But, the US and Iraq were allies before Iraq occupied Kuwait.
Is this not a hypocritical stance? The US is letting or even supporting to a certain degree, the killing of innocent Palestinians, while the whole world watches and turns a blind eye. When the United Nations passes a resolution all the member nations are expected to respect it, even if they disagree with the motion. The UN should and will intervene in situations where a member nation defies a UN resolution. The US for the most part of it, enforces the UN resolutions. For example in Iraq the UN passed a resolution for weapons inspectors to go through and check Iraq for weapons of mass destruction. The US backed the resolution just as they have done many times and many places in the past.

But why, when Israel openly defies UN resolution passed by the UN committee, does the US not do anything? In fact, the US supported Israel in its defiance of the UN when they occupied Palestine.
