Peace and Conflict Resolution (Education) Nowadays, many issues that are not related to the process of education, nevertheless, result in educational conflicts. This is because our modern social values are being integrated into the process of studying. Lisa Dwyers article Campus Life and Homophobia is a good example of how left-wing political agenda, after having assumed a dogmatic status, strives for nothing less than regulating students personal lives on campus. In it, Dwyer tries to relate students homophobic feelings to the places of their origin. The subject of her analysis is Memorial University of Newfoundland. After having conducted a very biased sociological research, Dwyer concludes that: there may be a higher level of homophobia at Memorial University of Newfoundlands dorms because they are primarily occupied by students from rural parts of the province (Dwyer).
She goes a great length, describing how negatively can homophobia affect students, whore often forced to hide their true identity because of it. Yet, after having read this article, it appears that author simply doesnt realize that universities are actually the places of learning and not the places, where people simply celebrate diversity. This is a common flaw of many contemporary theoreticians in the field of education they tend to confuse the cause and the consequence. Dwyer says: The pressures of being a student are great – imagine adding hatred to the pressures of financial and academic survival (Dwyer).
The Essay on Student: Special Education and Diagnostic/prescriptive/evaluative Teaching
The name of the school was Brenneham Elementary, which is a K-8 school and one of the many, Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The focus of my observation and interview was to discuss diagnosis, prescription, evaluation, and analyses of goal instruction, daily role, and implementation in the classroom. The researcher’s observations and interview consisted of the realization of the importance of an IEP ...
But, as a matter of fact, engaging I alternative lifestyle, on the part of students, comes as a result of the fact that they deal with very light academic and financial pressures. Author suggests that it is a commonly accepted fact that the right to pursue alternative lifestyle belongs to the category of essential human rights, while its far from being the truth. There is a substantial amount of scientific evidence, which effectively proves that homosexuality is nothing but a form of mental disorder. Why impose on students the notion that queers are normal, when scientists still argue about it? I think that there is no big tragedy in the fact that gays are discouraged to openly advertise their identity on campuses.
The student society has all the traits of an integral social body, it reacts on harmful external influences in the way our bodies immune system rejects foreign objects, to prevent poisoning of the whole organism. There is no doubt, that the greater freedom to pursue personal agendas on campus will result in lowering the academic standards, which will inevitably lead to formation of educational conflicts, in the long run. Despite authors attempt to sound reasonable, while arguing in favor of greater sexual liberty, she associate heterosexuality with rednecks. This automatically implies the notion that all heterosexual students are rednecks and other way around. She acts like a typical liberal – applying labels to people she doesnt like, while accusing them of being intolerant, at the same time. The Memorial University of Newfoundland doesnt stand alone, as an example of academic institution turning into a testing ground for numerous progressive social theories.
There is no doubt that the idea of stopping the hate on campuses is purely utopical, therefore its bounded for failure. It is not a secret that about 60% of Microsoft programmers come from East European countries. Apparently there werent enough adequately educated local specialists to hire Instead, we have graduates who know a great deal about all sorts of sexual deviations. The resolution of this educational conflict can be only accomplished if university recognizes that it is a personal right for students to indulge in alternative lifestyle, for as long as it doesnt divert others from attaining their primary academic goals. There can be no demands, on the part of queers, to enforce other students respecting their sexual practices. No one takes the right of choice away from the – if theyre so terrified of hate, they can stay at home or live inside of bubbles
