Leadership is a gift that not everyone has or desires to obtain. It is often times an instinctive quality that relies on ones ethics and morals. Leadership is a quality that many aspire to have, but few really grasp its true principles. It is not easily defined or looked at one faceted in regards to definition. However, leadership is encompassing of a multifaceted assortment of characteristics. A notable leader will retain traits like guidance, trustworthiness, fantastic listening skills, confidence, dependability, understanding, and empowering. As leaders or when becoming leaders we should lead from our core beliefs and values. In the business world today we fall witness to several different types of leadership. Each style is generally unique to their industry, profession, or a tailor made approach from an eclectic work experience. Differing ideas shape our thought process and ethics within our decision-making processes.
My leadership style is fashioned by my values, cultural competency, life experiences, communication skills, and innovative mindset. My assessment shows that I am an ENTJ personality (Extroverted, Intuition, Thinking, Judgment).
The ENTJ personality, better known as the Executive Personality, is definitely one I was more drawn to. The fundamental thought process of the ENTJ personality type is Extraverted Thinking and the ancillary function for ENTJs is Introverted Intuition. In agreement to 16 Personalities, “ENTJ personalities are very charismatic, rational and quick-minded. They are meant to lead and inspire other people and there is no other type that can do this with such ease” (16personalities.com, 2013).

The strengths of an ENTJ would normally be their ability to think critically and logically.
You’ll find leaders with ENTJ personalities to be ambitious, encouraging of knowledge, and have boundless business wisdom. Some weaknesses in regards to leaders with an ENTJ personality could be observed as arrogant, stubborn, or even lack empathy. When looking at what makes up who I am, my personality speaks volumes and is a direct correlation with my leadership style. It is a definite match in regards to my ethical decision-making; it will be subjective to my ENTJ traits. Waiting in this instance is not something my ENTJ personality would be fond of. I’d rather take a fast and to the point approach in dealing with any ethical decisions and issues. As a leader I tend to lead towards a common directive and goal. When deciding which route to take I come at them through life experiences, values & morals, legal policies, and the code of conduct for my given profession. When making decisions emotion and sympathy have no place in my rational ethical decision making.
All information needs to be collected and evaluated with integrity. Encouraging self-empowerment, proficiency, and personal growth help define what makes my leadership style successful. My life experiences are quite eclectic and help to motivate me on a personal as well as professional level. Some of the ideas that resonate with me the most are integrity, honesty, loyalty, and perseverance. According to The Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, cultures of Power Distance is interrelated with revenue disparity in a country. “This dimension expresses the degree to which the less powerful members of a society accept and expect that power is distributed unequally” (Hofstede Centre, 2013).
Cultural differences in these instances can and should cause you to change and adapt to a different leadership style. However, making decisions in regards to inequality or economic issues require more finesse.
Power Distance cultures often times have less financial influence than other cultures. When dealing with financial decisions I would lead towards the conservative side of things. With culture playing an even larger role in today’s society being familiar with the differences is a necessity. I also have to be able to address this and make sure it fits with my ethical decision making. It is more evident how important it is to interpret that awareness into your ethical decision-making. When leading I need to be consistent, assertive, fast, effective, patient, moral, loyal, and of course ethical.
