Safeguarding looks at protecting children and young people, this is does mean protecting them from just direct abuse but from a wider role and making sure that they are staying safe and that they come to no harm. The staying safe action plan looks at; keeping the children and young people from accidents, bullying and crime, forced marriages and action promotion of welfare and a healthy safe environment. child protection focuses on protecting children from suffering any abuse, harm or neglect.
Child protection also looks at any health development issues that a child has and looks at how they could improve this and how they can implement ways to help the child. Child protection is a worldwide service that is used in every country because child protection unfortunately is an issue in every country. In the UK there are strict laws, social service teams and charities such as the NSCPP (National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children) and Barnados, all of these services and organisations are in place to prevent and respond to any child protection issues.
Keep children and young people (CYP) from accidents means putting things in place to prevent accidents and harm coming to the CYP, to prevent this from happening in most child care settings they do risk assessments, this means making sure that anything that can cause harm to the CYP is removed and that the environment is safe for the CYP to play in and be safe.

Safeguarding also covers CYP who are involved with bullying and crime, this can mean that they work with CYP who are being bullied and have committed crime or CYP that are suspected to being bullied or suspected to of committed a crime, a child who is being bullied or committing crime sometime may be bullied into committing crime, this can be from peers or parents and carers. Safeguarding works with CYP closely to help them and to stop them from being bullied or committing crime and getting into trouble with the local authorities.
Forced marriages are a big issues when it comes to safe guarding, in some cultures marriages are arranged. Arranged marriages are different to forced marriages, a forced marriage is when an individual does not want to get married, this can be a fully grown adult or can be a child below the legal age to get married. In this case the marriage is forced. In some countries children and young people below the age of legal marriage are sometimes forced to get married to individuals much older than them.
Because the child or young person is below legal age this means that they are legally not allowed to get married which means the person marrying the underage individual is causing an offence. Safeguarding works with CYP and their families if a suspected forced marriage is on the horizon and do their best to stop the forced marriage and help the CYP get out of the situation for their own safety. Safeguarding is a procedure that is followed to make sure that all CYP are safe and to make sure that they come to no harm or to any risk of harm. People working in and around safeguarding have a large responsibility for making sure that the CYP are safe and making sure that their needs and requirements are met.
