Appreciation and reward are the two things which exhilarate just about any individual, no matter what his/her age is. Our society is contaminated with the vague concept that the non-academic achievements are merely a wastage of time’ whereas academic achievements are a means to acquire the par of excellence in any field. It does stand true that hard work can help you achieve success but if you pursue the career where your talent lies, you can reach the skies.
No matter how exuberant and superlative a person’s non-academic achievements are, our society hardly weighs it on the same balance as the academic ones; there is a huge discrepancy. For instance, the movie “Taare Zameen Par” depicts how the students’ problems are neglected in the light of academics. Hence their talent gets crushed because their non-academic achievements are given no importance if they are not good academically.
The reason for these shallow thoughts of our society is the competitive world out there. Everyone wants the best and expects much more than they should which leads to the increment in their desires. Money and status are the prime incentives. An extremely talented artist, if given the choice between IBA and a school of artists, would be probed to enter the high ranked university IBA because the market appoints their graduates instantly.
Why does this happen? Why a girl has to do engineering when she actually wanted to be a radio jockey? Why do we see more doctors, graduates in business administration, engineering and the like rather than masses doing film making, arts and craft, singing, and pursuing these as a career? Status consciousness is the exposition which one can decipher. Such academics are taken as a burden and done half heartedly, but the sad part is that people do not accept this.
Having learnt from the past, I live in the present with an eye on the future. My foremost dream in life is to be acknowledged and congratulated for my academic achievements. This desire is the main motivation in me wanting to pursue my masters at your esteemed university. I want to reach the zenith in Computing and Information Technology space. To cap it all, it can be said that academics can give a person jobs and luxuries, but the peace of mind and contentment can be acquired if the person follows his/her talent, which in turn can be done if the non academic achievements are admired, appreciated and rewarded from an early age. Support and love can make a person achieve success in almost anything. Encouragement is a huge asset, which is what our society needs to know and adopt as a demeanor.
