The price of an airline ticket has changed much than what it was years ago. “The average cost of a plane ticket within the U. S. plunged 9. 1 percent to $315 during the first three months of 2009” (Johnson, J. ) People can now travel cheaper and faster than they could before commercial airplanes became a reality; whether it is a vacation to Hawaii or a trip to see the Great Wall of China. This also allowed more immigrants to come to United States as it was viewed as hope for the poor, for them it meant a new life and freedom.
Also, businesses have used airplanes as a method to communicate with one another and the American culture has been influenced by cultures from around the world. Participation in events in foreign countries such as Tour de France, Olympics, Major League baseball in America, boxing, etc… had more competition as more people can afford to travel to participate. Even people involved in politics used airlines as a transportation as to quickly meet certain people strategically. Aviations terms were created for easier communications between the pilot and the operator at the towers.
Words or terms such as back taxi, angel flight, crab angle, $100 hamburger, and many more will have different meaning from what that is used every day. For example, the term “hundred dollar hamburger” is slang for private aviation pilots who just want an excuse to fly. There are some religious practices that were not allowed on planes as rules on the plan forbid them. Causing uproar for religious people, the issue would continue as the rules were made to protect everyone on the plane. Some devices were not allowed because they can interfere with the plane’s systems during start up or during flight.

Jokes about planes during the flight were mostly taken seriously; from some religious jokes to bomb jokes. Even some words, such as bomb or terrorist became taboo during a visit to the airport. {draw:frame} Although there have been accidents with planes and a popular fear of heights, flying, or just the plane itself, there are few worries within airlines. Even with movies that showed unexpected problems during flights such as engine blowing, hi-jacking, bombs, missing people, and yes, even snakes, many people did not worry about air safety.
However, with the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, many people are still cautious and hesitant about flying. This event caused many people to fear that they could also be hi-jacked. The airline security changed and was much stricter than what it was before. People were only allowed certain items to be carried on board; the limit on the items on carry-on bags must be within 10x16x24 inches for most airlines, security checks became stricter and took more time.
This also led to a war on terrorism which is still going on today. {draw:frame} {draw:frame} Airplanes have created major pollutions; it mostly contributes to noise, air, and water. There were some studies that said that noise can cause health problems. Noise from airplanes can go over 100 dB, that’s more than enough to cause damage to a person ear. “Those who say they are bothered by local noise levels rate their general health more poorly than those who say they are not bothered by local noise” (Health Perspectives (EHP)).
Laws and bills were passed to make sure airports act upon lowering the noise (dB wise) in hopes of it not become a huge issue for locals who live near the airport. {draw:frame} Local air pollution caused by air planes is one of the major problems. It can give people asthma or trigger asthma attacks, lung cancer, even birth defects. The pollution generated from “Ground access vehicles emit 56% of VOCs, while aircraft taking off and landing give off only 32. 6% (including emissions from APUs), according to the EPA. Ground access vehicles emit 39. % of NO x , trailing closely behind emissions by aircraft and APUs of 46. 3%” (Health Perspectives (EHP)).
The Essay on Addressing Air Pollution Threats with Air Purifier
We are already in the year 2013 and like many other fields of technology there also has been significant improvements in the field of pollution prevention. Using an air purifier could address problems of air pollution substantially. With the world growing more and more conscious about environmental issues, pollution control is taking driver’s seat among various considerations for home, office, and ...
The air pollution California seems to be the worst. From the chart you can see that L. A. and Sacramento are on top of the list. Of course if you ever visit L. A. and have a view from above, you can see the clouds of air pollution. To help lower the pollution, the airlines have already started using electrical powered equipment. Research on more efficient engines for planes are under research and is hopefully created soon.
Airplanes also create water pollution as glycols are used for de-icing planes. ”During de-icing, the airlines mix 55% glycol and 45% water, heat the mixture to about 185° F, and spray the planes down with it, says Miles Carter, manager of environmental services at Denver International Airport. Without recapture efforts, 50-80% of the glycols may end up in the local waterways, says Mark Williams, assistant environmental program manager for the Maryland Aviation Administration” (Health Perspectives (EHP)).
Glycol can be toxic to humans and animals.
Glycol can cause death, coma, unconsciousness, nausea, vomiting, weakness, damage kidneys, and many other effects. To help lower the chances of glycol of entering our water ways and killing our fish, they use glycol recovery vehicles that look like street sweepers.
