Sport England has only been around for the past three years. Before Sport England was founded it was known as The Sports Council. This was an independent body under the department of the National Heritage. The sports council was founded in 1972. In its first year of operation, the sports council set out to identify itself by launching a Sport for All campaign to create wider public awareness of the value of sport and physical recreation and to call for action to improve its facilities and to increase participation. They are also focusing on getting young people involved in sport to get them off of the streets. The National Lottery simply raises the money and then divides it between the five sporting boding and they use it, as they seem correct. The money that is divided between the sporting bodies is then divided again and donated to sporting club and leisure facilities.
The money is mainly used to improve facilities and to buy more or better equipment for the athletes to use. This has a positive affect on everyone at the club. Everyone gets to use the better equipment which means there is a better chance of improving the technique of that athlete, which in turn means there is a better chance of that athlete making it through to the World Championships in whatever sport, which equals, a world class performer. The improvement of facilities also means that there is room in the club for the beginners. The higher standard athletes use the new top quality equipment leaving the older equipment to the beginners.
The sports clubs try to bring in a large number of new athletes so that they have a strong junior squad and so that when they are developed athletes they have a strong senior squad. Throughout the UK the sports council are trying there hardest to improve the standard of sport in the United Kingdom. One day not to far from now the UK will be up there at the Olympics topping the medal table because of the sporting improvements we are making at the moment. The kids of today will become Olympic Champions because of the lottery grants that are issued, and it’s because of this that Great Britain will become the greatest in the sporting world.
