Time Management a Necessary Balance Students go to college for a number of different reasons. These include leaving the confines of home, a sense of adventure, a desire to meet new people and new experiences, and finally to study and gain a qualification. Some seem able to balance these diverse aspects and to sail through college with few difficulties, maturing and developing both as people and as scholars on the way. Others find it difficult, again for a number of reasons. They may be placing too much stress on one thing play or study. They may actually be home sick and spend every week end travelling back and forth.
There are those who cant cope with the new freedoms involved and spend much of their time drunk, drugged or both until the money runs out. A few actually find that they have got more money than they are used to and spend rather too freely on such things as music systems or motorbikes. How is a balance to be achieved between having an enjoyable time and gaining an education? I feel that student should be made aware before they enrol not just of the positive sides of college life, but the possible negatives too. Some college handouts seem to have only the briefest outlines of courses and have a greater stress on the sports facilities or the price of beer in the college bar. They should be taught about such things as managing a budget, simple cooking skills, changing plugs etc. before they leave home.
College Time Plan Cpa
When I stepped out of high school, I felt that that day was the first day of my independence. That independence came sooner than I wanted it to. I knew then that it was time to prepare myself for that next level, college. I came to college with a laid-back attitude... I was in for a rude awakening. My experiences in college were ones that will last throughout my years of education. The experiences ...
For some I realise these will go straight over their heads cooking wont be necessary for instance because theyll eat takeaways, balancing a budget wont be necessary because parents will pick up the tab and so on. But is this the way to produce mature, well educated adults? Tutors need to be aware of the many possible problems that can arise. Tutor groups should be small enough so that they can really get to know individuals. They should make themselves as available and approachable as possible. Colleges should have counselling schemes so that those with particular problems such as finance or drugs can seek proper advice. Students need to be told quite clearly how much time a project will be expected to take, and if it is an extended piece of work there should be means of checking that they have actually made a start and have a framework to work within.
Setting work too far ahead tends to mean that it is forgotten about until the last moment. If there are group projects students must play their fair share in the results and tutors need to make sure that this is what actually happens. It is often too easy for the few to do all the work while others sleep or party. Many college courses now involve only short times in class and the majority of time the student is left to his or her own devices as far as study is concerned. This may be in total contrast to their studying up to this time. I feel that this kind of freedom is better built up to gradually in many cases. There should perhaps be library training sessions so that all are fully aware of the resources available.
Even something as simple as the provision of free wall organisers can make a difference if it means that people are at least aware that an assignment is due. Every tutor wants to get on with teaching their subject, but time spent at the beginning getting to know each persons capabilities, strengths and weaknesses will be well spent. I t is an exciting time, so much going on. Smaller groupings are where many friends are made, but though it may be great to play baseball, go canoeing, learn to samba or how many vodka shots it takes before your legs go numb etc students need to be aware that college isnt just a great holiday destination. Then there are the other individuals who spend all their time in the library and produce reams when only a short piece of work is required. They may not have enough confidence at first to join the drama society or whatever.
Vietnamese Parents Time Student
I sit in solemn silence, wondering if I should even bother with this essay. I am not the ideal Vietnamese child; I am nothing special. Since I was born, English has been my primary language. It is the language I think in, the only language I can express my true emotions. I am an American-born Vietnamese child, proud of my heritage, yet forever attempting to grasp it. I merely know this: my morals ...
Some may be quite happy as they are, but part of college life is about developing new skills, whether social or academic. Tutors and students need to be aware of such people and gently nurture them towards a more sociable balance. Different people will get different things out of their time in college, but I believe that those for whom it is a balanced experience will be the better off..
