Since the age of four I was pursuing recitals of ‘Bharat Natyam’ and at the age of seven my parents wanted me to give stage performance on the day of annual function of my school. My arguments of being too young to face big audience didn’t save me from the situation. I distinctly remember how tightly I had been holding the curtain on the stage to hide my shivering and my stare at other’s face with a hope for help only drew blank look from them. The call of my name and the fear of a scolding from my teacher pushed me to well lighted stage where I stood motionless facing audience and for first few second my wide open eyes tried to locate mom for no good.
To my surprise from well-lighted place I couldn’t see any one in the audience, sitting in dark. Thereafter my immediate feeling that, no one is seeing me, made me perform my dance as my routine recital. My misconception broke only when once again after twenty minutes I stood as stoned on the stage and thundering voice of continued claps made me learn a lesson ” biggest enemy i. e. fear resides in your mind.” This changed the whole spectrum and few years later and now I belive that I am distinctive in many respects and that makes me different from others.
As I grew in city Pune of India (called the oxford of east) with a burning desire to stand out in mass I realized that one has to be fearless and work hard in fields other than academics. The very belief propelled me to concentrate on developing my subcutaneous qualities such as intellect, attitude and personality. The thought of a young undergraduate girl, wanting to work for experience and pocket money, is good enough to raises many eyebrows. Unlike the majority of the Indian parents, mine instilled a strong education and work ethic in me.
